How do you guys feel about Webtoon/Tapas in general

AO3 is far from perfect and also not a 1:1 comparison, yes.

AO3 also is the only site I could really think of off the top of my head that doesn't purposefully make it's site layout force the reader to scroll through content as fast as they possibly can, and doesn't rely on ad revenue and instead operates off of user donations.

The point is that Tapas and Webtoon are manufacturing clicks, not content.

I have 1000 subs on webtoons vs 200 on tapas (on a now completed comic) which makes me very biased.
But the site feels like a cow milking machine where you're locked into a little stall and you're not even allowed to post links or author info or anything.
They don't even show your readers you have other titles on mobile so it's set up to make you fail.
Comment system is terrible.
I WANT to like Tapas more, but I get very little interaction. I try to keep in mind they are still growing.
When I started making comics I posted the worst drawn, most poorly written thing ever on a webpage on the internet and I got so much more interaction than I ever get on these sites now.
But there is a lot of awesome competition these days so I don't think I can really blame the sites!

It is a business. yes, it is, and you can stay in a corner and cry, jump on the train OR create your own fantastic story that will blow everyone's mind and set a new standard.

You won't change it - it's going to change you. Look at amazing content like Woven and Countdown to Countdown. Eaten by the system. Either you assimilate or you disappear.

Uh...yeah...like hell that will happen to me. I'm not limited to only one site, I'm already thinking of other ways to keep my brand moving and growing.
There's no way I'd keep all my eggs in one basket forever. I believe there's always a way to find new audiences, and besides that, business models change. Tapas and Webtoon won't be the leaders forever.
I don't blame the system. I'll adapt to work with or around the system.

Woven actually uses the Patreon and was posting on their site way before - I've been following them for a while actually. It sucks, but that just means you need to always look for new avenues to adapt.

Tapas needs a superhero category, its the worse when i'm trying to link updates and its just awkward clutter that you have to scroll through.

i'd love webtoons to try to engage newer comic creators if that instead of going off the top 30 webcomics lol

also being able to figure out who's ur subs and who's following your comic would be nice....on webtoons
and a schedule feature on webtoons pls.

LOL im friends w Bees actually!!! they're really nice, and my icon on most of my platforms is by their partner Sean! Woven has done really well and I'm happy for Bees - it's just kind of an example of "assimilate or die". Woven was struggling on Patreon and DA before getting a random feature on Webtoon and Tapas both - even had a long, long hiatus for a while.

I got a ton of readers on Webtoon faster than I did on Tapas...BUT I feel like the readers here on Tapas stay for the long haul- especially in my case where I've had to take a hiatus to allow my arms to heal. I've gotten crap from Webtoon readers about "publish more often" when I'm spitting out a page a week; with the hiatus, I'm just like shrugs with Webtoon. Yeah, I'm frustrated and pissy that things are taking their sweet time to heal, but I dont really think about Webtoon as much- when I get back there, is when I get back.

Huh, had no idea they were on dA! Though on that regard, I only see comics move from there rather than show up. If Tapas and WT already incentivize people to read and forget (and Tapas at least asks kindly to support the artist), the Eclipse layout demands it, it feels like.

Still a few kinks to work out here and there but otherwise, we're pretty happy with the success so far.
