i dont like webtoons, the ratings wars there are shitty plus they don't push promising smaller comics to the frontline, in some cases you can't even find your own comic by its name if its small, if they could make a forum for the users like tapas has to allow people with smaller fanbases to interact and promote each others comics, it would make me view it in a more positive aspect.

I get you, but the name thing is a glitch they haven't fixed yet. If you have an apostrophe your comic can't be searched for. I rlly wish they would fix it because it effects my comic as well :pensive:

:grimacing:webtoons should really look into the search feature not working in general then

Ive seen a lot of smaller comic creators make it to the front page and even spotlight on webtoons, including toaster man, insecurity and a variety of others.

my comic has "&" and it's not even displayed in the address string on taps lol
I don't think it's a site problem you just can't use a special symbols for a data base

I've tried to get into webtoons, but I can't. I just don't like the formatting as a reader, and I extra hate it as a creator. I also realized the comments are a lot more... childish... there? I feel like the readers at Tapas have a lot more in-depth conversations or comments to make about peoples' hard work.
I also just enjoy the content that Tapas has to offer more. Maybe I'm wrong, but there seems to be a lot more dedicated creators who aren't dropping their works on this site. So you have a better change of reading a whole story through on this site.
Oh, and Tapas is more lenient with what a comic can allow (and it has novels) so that is the biggest plus ever.

Tapas works, looks, and i prefer it by far, as a reader and creator. Webtoons has a bigger reach, but it feels so behind and lacks so many obvious tools.

I miss tapas when it wasn't all about paying to read comics with ink, and had a bigger trending section for free comics.

Webtoon is even worse.

Ever since the site update a while back, the Tapas site has looked like ass and sucks to navigate. I like the dashboard as well as the uploading system a lot, though.

Webtoons should have a notification system, at least for comments. The site design is also pretty bad, though not as bad as the new Tapas. I like the big reach it has, though.

my only gripe with webtoons is they could easily just add icons or artists of stories onto the front page too- under the popular comic section, just to give everyone, especially new smaller comic users a little highlight..
Haven't uploaded anything to tapas yet, but I do like the layout for chapters and stories a lot better than webtoons.

in my case, Webtoons originals can use the apostrophe just fine though. It's a weird glitch that just effects canvas for some reason. Some older comics can be searched for using the apostrophe too, pre 2016ish

Interestingly enough I have had more activity on Webtoons than Tapas and I totally expected it to be the other way around. I haven't been on either sites long enough, maybe a little over a month so I'm far from having a ton of subscribers. Growing subscribers is a slow process. Bottom line is this whole webcomic thing requires a lot of patience and you have to be in it for the long haul.

I like Tapas better. It has more features like being able to schedule releases of chapters, and it has a forum. The very forum that we're on right now. There could be other features that Tapas has that Webtoon doesn't that I don't know about yet, but that would just further cement my opinion.

I like tapas more due to being able to actually schedule my updates(like what the hell webtoons every other site has that feature). If the community picks remain I believe tapas provides greater exposure to smaller, less well known writers compared to webtoons which is a crap shoot since there is no forum to advertise.

In terms of reading Im like okay to both of them. I navigate tapas more for new stuff, but I can access the premium comics on webtoons easier.

Tapas Pros:
1. Tapas allows NUDITY and mature content provided it's marked as mature and the gratuitous stuff is censored.
2. Has NOVELS
3. The staff can be easily reached! And responses are usually prompt depending on your issue.
4. The readership seems more mature? Comments are way better here.
5. The Forum
6. Scheduling feature and notifications
7. The bar to monetizing your series is lower than WT.
8. Better performance data provided on the creator dashboard.

Webtoons Pro:
1. Way bigger audience. Though you can still underperform there relative to the amount of users it has compared with other webcomics.

Idk much about webtoons but there was a vid on YouTube that convince me the way webtoons markets itā€™s big comics encourages a lot of click baity trash.

I like both sites well enough, as it's nice to have hosting sites available to use at all!

My preferences skew towards Tapas a little bit, as it has some creator-friendly features that are just completely absent on webtoons. The dashboard has more information here than there, Author Notes can be much longer, the tipping system exists, the creator wall is nice (although it would be nicer if it extended to the app as well...), notifications for likes and comments, etc. I've just recently started hanging around again since taking a several month break between finishing my last comic and starting the front-end work on a new one and aren't a huge fan of some of the layout changes they've made recently but... eh. Multtiple genres and covers are a thing now so that's pretty rad!

Re: Webtoons is nice because of the larger audience though. My first comic actually performed better on Tapas than Webtoons consistently throughout it's run but I've heard enough anecdotal evidence to get the feel that that's not the norm. Further whenever I mention webcomics to people irl (friends mostly, but sometimes randos too) anyone who's savvy with them mostly all know webtoons but a lot of people haven't heard of Tapas... which is understandable. But that means it's nice to upload on Webtoons as well so that you can more often than not direct people to your comic if they only read on that platform.
