I'm using Medibang Pro to sketch but after looking through some tutorials on inking I can't seem to figure out how to get that smooth finished result as others are able to. Also I'm pretty new to drawing with a tablet and I'm not drawing on top of the screen but rather a drawing pad attached to my pc.

Remember to relax your arm. The more you tense the harder it is to draw smooth lines. Try and remember to draw from the shoulder. That's about the only advice I can give you, other than keep at it.

To be honest, I never learned to ink well on that kind of tablet, and I had it for years. I could colour fine, but my lines was not very great compared to what I did traditionally. The disconnect was too great for me. I first really picked up digitally after I got my Cintiq :S

I hope that's not too discourageing, and that you will learn it in time. The only thing I can say is practice. Good luck!

Draw longer, faster lines, be confident and don't scribble. Make sure you work on a sufficiently large canvas at 300dpi+ to prevent it from looking pixelated.

But really, most of it is just plain practice and working on your draftsmanship. You need to put in the mileage to get your muscles to do what you want to do, just like in sports. And, well, that takes time, unfortunately.

If you want some more specific advice it'd help if you could upload some screenshots of your work!

Practice making lines and getting used to the tablet FIRST. Dont just dive in & think you're gonna nail a masterpiece on the first try. It's not that easy...scribble and doodle with the tablet, so that you can get used to making strong confident lines.

The most important thing is that practicing on a tablet without a screen helps develop that "hand/eye coordination" for you to look at the screen to see what the cursor is doing as opposed to trying to look at the tablet. In time you will get used to it, but it's gonna take a minute.

before my cintiq i just had to teach myself to be steadier. it honestly just comes with practice.
but!! quick lines will always look smoother than slow ones.

I think it's tougher to "ink" with a tablet than with a brush, but it can be done.
Here are some things that helped me.
1. The surface is slippery. Try drawing with your hand brushing against the surface for more stability. You may need to put a piece of cloth or paper between your hand and the tablet.
2. Practice drawing lines going from thick to thin and vice versa.
3, In my case (my coordination is crap,) I often end up zooming in to clean up the linework so it's thick or thin where I want it to be.
I hope it helps! smile

Aww man, I've been using a tablet for years and I still feel like I draw way better on paper, but it definitely gets easier. Just keep with it, the more you practice the easier it gets, the smoother your lines will come out and the faster you'll be able to draw on your tablet.

Best tips I can give other than practice is not to overthink it, just try and draw like you would on paper and try not to think of it as something separate from what you're viewing on the screen if that makes sense. Don't press too hard, it makes the lines kinda shaky, do warm up lines when you start drawing just to get a feel for it.
Hope that helps!
