How does a comic attain trending status?

I just saw a comic in the trending category with 6 subscribers and 196 views. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Not at all, but I'm wondering why I never see any other comics with littler to no followings on there? I'm also kind of asking because I'd really like to see one of my comics on there some day, but I have no idea how to get it there.

From what I noticed, it's usually when a comic gets a bunch of likes and possibly subs within a short amount of time. I know after my comic has someone liking all the pages (all 200+ of them) or just a few - it usually ends up in the trending category.

I'm sure someone else has the more technical lingo for it.

step 1 : make a slice of life comic
step 2 : draw in anime/cute style
step 3 : reuse old cliche relatable jokes
step 4 : bath in new found subs

I've seen the same thing with mine! If I get a likestorm sometimes I get into trending. :>

Keep in mind that a lot of us in the less-than-1000 subs range make it on but don't stay there very long, which is probably also the reason you don't see as many with smaller followings -- they just don't stay in trending as long. I don't think my comic has ever stayed there for an entire hour? So if you miss it it's entirely possible to not even know your comic was there. xD

I break onto trending in sci-fi for a day or two after I post a new page. I'll make it into the overall trending for an hour, or a couple of hours, here and there ... at least that's how my last three updates have gone, since I started really looking at that stuff. And my comic is very new and only has a small number of subs and views.

I thought that Popular was decided by new subs, likes, comments and views ... and that trending was a mix of the Popular algorithm and Tapastic staff thumbs upping comics. In short, I think that I read somewhere that trending is half likes/etc and half Staff curated. Someone who has been around here for a longer time can probably confirm.

I also get the feeling that the algorithm they use isn't just based on flat statistics (total # of likes, subs, etc), but weighted statistics (perhaps something like how many likes it gets in relation to total number of subscribers, etc). But that's a total blind guess based on very little information, and I could be soooo wrong.

well Ive made some comics based on common re used jokes, I call them generic comics cause sooo many people joke about the same things! so feel free to use any of those topics.

Actually I don't know, but I don't think it's just page views. One of my comics was viewed over 1k times in an afternoon (because I advertised the link on another site) and I was no where near trending because I didn't get any subs or likes. Cough...it's not that it sucked...cough...it was that the readers weren't Tapastic members.

I refuse to do that. That's why one of my comics on hiatus. I'm trying to come up with goofy random humor that hasn't been used a million times before.
