How does webtoons rating work?

So I branched into webtoons yesterday for the first time ever. I put the first two chapters of my comic up and I was feeling really good about this new platform to interact with. I was excited to interact with a whole new community. I go check on it today and my comic has a 1 star rating.

Is that the default rating, or can you only get that by someone actively rating your comic as low as humanly possible?

I was super bummed out when I saw that, as you'd expect, but if that's just a default then it stings a little bit less I guess.

I wouldn't trust it - I went down by like 2-3 stars almost immediately after giving someone criticism they didn't like. I hears that it's common for ratings to be dealt out in pettiness on webtoons.
Ratings fluctuate constantly on there.

I believe it's based on the ratings themselves and the amount of them combined. Say 3 people give it 5 stars, that's an automatic 10 rating-wise. If one of them gives it 4 stars instead, it'll drop down to 8.5 or whatever. I don't think you get a rating number until someone rates it.

That said, don't worry about the ratings. It's only been a day, an early bad review won't destroy you lol just keep posting chapters, you'll find your audience

Sadly is not the default but the rating system can give readers quite a lot of power. 1 star rating plummet things to the ground while 10 barely boost. I am sitting on 6.50, a one star rating got it from 8.60 down to 6.50, that is how bad the rating system can get O_O

Even really popular discover comic can be in the 5 range cause of this system, I wouldn't put to much emphasis on the rating, but if it help post the link here and I'll checkout the comic and rate it.

luckily the rating doesn't seem to effect your ranking. But it does sting a bit because there are people downvoting for the fun of it. Especially right now there is a contest going on so it seems the downvoters are at large these days.

you can give yourself a 10 and you can post here. I don't mind giving out 10s to help even it out.

Just rate your own comic up, it's what I've been doing since the star rating kept bothering me! Any time something happens that people don't like they'll rate it one star. New character they don't like, one star. Upload something too short, one star.. Some people rate it multiple times on different accounts if they want to mess with you.
Luckily it's not an actual indication of the people who are reading your comic, after a while the people that like it can balance the scores out. Until then there's no shame in getting your friends to give it 10 stars!
