How is Tapastic's community so...Nice?

I just joined Webtoon 2 days ago and you're right, it's quite hostile. The system is based in competition and it's hard and... well, I kind of hate it. I can't complain at all about the people who have left comments in my stuff: they're all nice, specially people that I know from here, but I've read horrible comments in other people's comics. Also you're invisible unless you post frequently, because every day there are a buch of new comics that enter right to the highest position in the ranking before anyone has read them (because the authors can vote for themselves). To tell the truth I'm thinking about quitting.

That place has NOTHING to do with Tapastic. Don't ask me why, but this is a really, really nice place full of nice people. I knew that before, but now I have proof. =(

I really think it's the feeling of competition that brings out the worst in people. Everyone has an idea of who they want to win and so on, and it's ridiculous. People need to calm down on that site and just let what happens happen. To be honest, the whole rating system isn't even that heavily followed by webtoons officials anymore from what I heard. They saw what people were doing and now it's just there for the readers rather then for the competition.

Tapastic is different since it's not an official competition every single post. It's just a nice hosting system.

I was in LINE last year and I was getting frustrated because i was getting a lot of upvotes and suddenly people were downvoting, when I asked a friend, it was explained that audiences were trying to get others to the top. I got mad and I left, tbh. I didn't have time for that drama in my life.

So, to be honest, when I joined here about last week, I was terrified thinking it'd just be more cut-throat competition for #1 spot. I'm honestly delighted to know it isn't the case, although the community is somewhat tiny in the forums in comparison to the amount of works that are online.

The forums are kinda like a separate entity to the actual website, at least thats what I feel like. Not to mention a lot of readers might feel like it's more for the creators then everyone. Thats what i felt like when I first found the site.

I remember seeing that happen a lot on webtoons when they first started the competition. It was crazy and honestly put me off from the website for a while. A friend of mine loves it though, granted they just use it to read rather then create.

I really think it's only because there are so few regulars on this site. The nastiness and cliquish behaviour comes with numbers. Seriously, check out the badges section. There are 2000 or so users with a member status, 600 with a member status, and 50 with a regular status. That's NOTHING.

If you're talking about comments on individual comics, the nasties won't turn up until you've got at least 10-20k subs I'd say. That's usually how it goes. Most of us won't have to worry about that for a long time, if ever.

Also, lots have pointed out how there's no down voting system here, which is a good thing, but ultimately, there's nothing magical about Tap, it's just new.

Regarding the number of users, I think we are talking about the site overall, not just the forums - the good vibes are also on the main site, where there are far more than 2000 viewers/commenters/account-holders

I came here back when InkBlazers had to shut down and though I remember that site being quit positive I'd say from my experience Tapastic may have it beat which is part of the reason why I'm staying even though the support program is gone.

I hope that Tapastic will stay friendly, I'd hate to see it end up like Tumblr

I used to be part of many forums and deviantart, in all of those (let's include facebook too, why not) there are nice people and also bad people, sadly those people usually were more than the good ones. Normally fights, normally insults, shoots everywhere, cries and a casual racoon, and nobody understands. I frankly was scared to publish my comic here, I was in the part of "there will be bad people too", but then, few months later I'm like...

The other day I was reading here in the forum an argument, but like... it was so civilized, there were no insults, but also facts and research, I didn't know if I was in some magical place or something.
I think, in my theory, is because most of us came from places where happened what I said up here (more or less) and don't want to continue seeing the same things, and also every page needs good moderators and admins to make the rules be fulfilled. Besides here we care mostly for our art and our work with it more than drama and that's more helpful to find new friends
I really hope to this place to continue like it is, otherwise I won't know where to go :'D Hnngh

Oh wow Mari! I didn't know! I saw your comic on Webtoons but was a bit concerned considering the atmosphere there, and I really don't think you deserve any of the hateful vibe that can happen there =(

Oh, dear, you're the sweetest! Don't worry, I haven't seen that hateful vibe against me at all and the mainly thing that bothers me is the hard/unfair competition, but now that I know how the place works I'm overcoming the initial shock. I'm going to stay a bit longer, and the moment I feel it isn't worth I'll leave without looking back. I'm ok, it's just that I didn't know places like that. <3<3<3

Tapastic is like the cinnamon role of internet sites~ It's so nice here and I think it's because the community is smaller and close knit. I considered webtoons many times but after all I heard about it, erm I'd rather stay on tapastic haha. As someone who has experienced the dark times of tumblr... this place is like a sanctuary. If there were more features, this would be my main site no doubt. I really hope with all my heart that tapastic keeps this positive vibe. We could all use some positivity on the internet.

I have to agree it has to do with the newness. Almost no one in my friends circle knew about Tapastic, but they knew about LINE Webtoon. When I posted a comic with one page marked NSFW, a lot of my friends complained to me because they couldn't read it because they didn't have an account. XD I managed to convince some of them to get one.

I don't think Tapastic will end up like tumblr has, because whereas on tumblr you have lots of curators and reposters, Tapastic is focused upon original content, and people on here love original content. We also don't have an anonymous messaging system, and I'm thankful for that.

And also the design of the site! It's easy to use on desktop and the apps are super nice. And I love the font so much, I'm really tempted to use it for everything.

It's Century Gothic I think or something very similar. But it's true the font is super nice, CG is one of my favorite fonts so I fell in love with the site immediately xD
