How long should a slow-burn romance take?

How long should a slow-burn romance take? Lately, I have been watching some shows with a lot of slow-burn couples, and that got me wondering if others have a standard for how long it should take for the couple to get together. Because if it takes too long, you could get annoyed or lose interest, and sometimes when a couple does finally get together their character development becomes stale.

Well, it’s best to think about the characters instead of the plot. Ask yourself why they’d be together, how long it would take them, how they would behave after (which is usually the same as before).

I agree with @AmeTsunami, also, it would depend on the audience you want to get. Like, for me, I like Romances like Horimiya where its not as dramatic, but it gets they boyfriend girlfriend thing over with immediately and focuses on them building their relationship, as well as the characters around them. Otherwise, just write whatever, cause either way, as long as its written well, people will take interest in it, no matter how small the audience is.

Honestly, there's no set timeline. Slow-burn romances can take hundreds of pages depending on the series. If the main plotline is the two characters getting together, then yes, it may become a bit stale, but if the romance evolves naturally out of the chemistry of the two characters and more is going on in the story, then it really does not matter. As long as other parts of the writing, such as the pacing, storybeats, etc. are solid, a slow-burn romance can take as long as it needs to.

The biggest thing about slow burn comics is something has to happen. Otherwise its not slow burn, it's just boring. I see too many comics thinking they are slow burn but it's really the writer not knowing where to go so small stories just happen. These small stories have no reason to be in the story. If your reader can skip pages and pages of your story and not miss anything, nothing is happening. And in all stories, something should happen in every episode to move the main story along.

I'm not a fan of slow burns in general, I usually give up within 50 eps if nothing's interesting has happened
