How many characters do you plan on focusing on in your comic?

There's quite a few characters in the over-arching story. Maybe not into the 100's but well into the 10's. Having said that, there is, effectively, only 3 main characters. Currently my audience will only be aware of the one.

Well, I do have a pretty large cast of characters, if we're considering the story in its entirety. When it comes to the main cast, then I can safely say it's not that big and it won't expand too much over the course of the story.

I can't reveal much, but most of my characters (especially the villains) do have a backstory and stay relevant throughout the course of the series.

I have two main characters that I explore a lot, but want to tell more about 2 others and their relationship but I'm kinda scared of doing that in a BL comic cuz they are straight xD so I just leave it kinda superficial, but I wanna tell more about them in the future. In the script I'm slowly telling more and more about them but I think it's still in the background, unfortunatelly. I wish I wasn't so scared of telling my own story xD

Yep two sounds manageable and true lots of opportunity for exploration Thats a cool idea telling bits about them so readers get accustomed and would eventually want to know more about them.

For mines-
In season 1 the main cast is small 3 main (two brothers and their mentor) and about five reoccuring.
(Season modelled after TV series 20-22 episodes & each tapas episode being 1/5 TV Episode)

The cast grows in later seasons:
Season 2 - 4 the hero cast evolves into a team dynamic of 6 characters like Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers & Voltron.
While the 2 brothers remain major throughout, some of the others that make up the total 6 get swapped in the different seasons.
And if you include the obstacle/antagonist per season, the main cast is about 7-9.

I won't go through lengths exploring each chara backstory, but use their actions, character design and personal belongings to give the reader clues. So viewers can make up their own theories of some background characters too.

Outside the focussed cast, the story is a Battle Royale taking place so the human cast across 4 seasons is large, about 50. For story relevancy most are minor and BG characters to be fodder for the high stakes of narrative, many die by the numbers.

thank you I started kinda testing the waters and even got a comment of something like "i kinda wish them both got together" xD so yeah, I hope my readers take them well, cuz I love them as much as I love my main couple. I'm just scared because it's not commom to have a straigh couple in a BL, normally it's another gay couple xD

I have 5 focal characters! I didn't feel my story needed a large main cast, especially since it heavily focuses on all of their relationships with one another throughout the course of the story. It kept my character arcs easy to follow, and doesn't make the story longer than needed in my case.

3 arc characters (who get the focus for 1 arc then fall back into a spporting role)
3 supporting characters (who don't get an arc of their own but is constantly present in a supporting role)

So depends on the level of 'focus'

@ccmatta lol People already wishing them together then XD Maybe one of them can hint their personal preferences so ppl don't get disappointed far into the future? That's awesome you love them as much as the main couple
As you mentioned that I felt the similar when 1st making Sick Boy because had always wanted to tell a gay and straight storyline in one. Would a spin off work for your secondary characters, maybe later when you're able to balance another series? And it would be promising as your followers already aware of them too
Dying to read your comic when I get a chance, I'm a bit behind schedule as I had virus last week, fighting to fin this next Sick Boy episode by next week.

@stiatent I think in your case you can easily explore both storylines and make something so cool with it! omg love in the middle of the apocalypse who could imagine xD everyone is dying and then puf gays hahaha jk, i think it'd be a good aspect to explore in a scenario like yours, and unlike my work that is atached to the stereotypes of BL (that I can always break, obviously, it's my story xD), you can have either gay and straight storylines no problems. I can too, idk why i'm so afraid you know? I can always put it in there and ask what people think, and if the response if negative, I stop showing too much of it and leave it on the backgrounds no problem.

I also tought of a spin off! But I'd have to think of a interesting storyline for them, like one good enough for a full comic, right now I know what they'll be like in the main comic and things like that, but... omg I just had an idea right now and omg xDD I may do a oneshot of them yeah that's it xDD

Good question I don't at the moment ive been just going through the story but I know theres alot. Even though I plan to flush the characters out a little while i introduce them

There will be 6 main characters in Lyza's Sandstorm and of course, the most focus will be on Lyza since she's the main protagonist.

There will be also big focus on the major villains, as well.

There is 6 in the main crew but the most focus will be on 2 of them, but there will be about 9 that will be there pretty much all the way to the end on and off

Offf, many of them will have their own arcs to get a high development, but I will say that the best characters of Knight of HOPE in terms of development will be Lodium and Queen Alfalucien

Lodium will get an arc for controling him anger issues and understand himself that he is valid like all of his crew

In Alfalucien terms is kind of spoilers, so I will just said, is one if the deepest redemption arcs you will see...

@ccmatta Thanks lol keeps me motivated to hear you love it XD Lol middle of apocalypse indeed, trying to keep surprises but yep a couple of patrons tied to that gay nightclub on flyer turn up with powers too For one of the secondary gay couples was thinking of doing a BL spinoff at some point too, as they have importance in Season 3 & 4 of SickBoy.
You're right, it's your story so breaking the rules a bit isn't bad XD I love what I read so far so I have faith you'll make something that fits in with your universe A double date can be cute too XD
Good idea reflex yea the Oneshot is a great idea on so many levels, it may even encourage new readers who want more to check out Saudade too

hellcats + hellhounds rounds out at about 7 main characters tho focus will bounce around as each arc/chapter carries on

and for harewood there's it's likely gonna grow as it goes along but again bouncing around as things continue, like there's maybe 6 main recurring characters and a few side ones who'lll turn up again here and there but it's really probably two at the core and a big supporting cast

now that i'm thinking about it most of my stories are like that with either one big main group or a main duo and all the other characters surrounding them

Yay motivation!!! Must be hard working with 3D models, I use them for poses sometimes on my comic and I spend so much time on them, I can't imagine doing a whole comic with them! It was what called my attention to your comic at first! It was so different I had to check it out hahaha You too keep up the good work!

Had actually started writing a side comic based on main comic, to focus on 1 of the secondary main characters and 2 support characters.
about 40- 50 Tapas episodes (= 10-12 TV episodes) focused on 2 characters at 1st and a total of 4 main characters halfway through the series. At least 2 would have their backstories visited, but the others would beleft to audience interpretation, based on their personality and personal items.

@ccmatta Only season 1 fully written and the others are short notes. Thanks for thinking it professional, yours's professional looking too Yea your writing as you go does sounds fun, it's like playing a game and seeing it unfolding, guessing you have all your rules and character personalities down 1st right? Likewise I like a lil mystery/surprise too so some of the minor scenes get improvised eg. the scene where they pick up the magazine with the promos.
Excited to see that double date when it happens then, yep true work at you comfort and let it grow on you
That's awesome you use 3d for poses, I do the same sometimes when drawing 2d art, yep true it saves time vs figuring out the poses on your own. Actually even for the 3d poses, I'd take selfie references too to capture the challenging emotions. Yep working with 3d has it's ups and downs, been trying to keep improving lighting, indoor car scenes are the worse bec the scene light gets caught in the car glass XD
