I'm one right now. I feel more comfortable in Tapas than WP. Yes, Watty might be the major platform for literary compositions, but it is also the biggest platform for the ultimate bs, fake views, fake subscribers, overshadowing, and a playground for 13-year-old kids who gets more views than the actual quality stuff. I love it, but it's just a battlefield in there. Plus, what I noticed in Tapas is that the queer content is completely welcome and loved in here, which is a total thumbs up for me.

I also meant to shamelessly promote as well, lol.

I'm from Wattpad! I guess I'm just trying everything to find success online before I graduate highschool so I can a) move back to america and b) get out of studying something I don't want to.

Wattpad is amazing and I've found some of the best people on there (i've never been one to talk about my writing in the forums, but just kind of whatever so i've ran across people who don't exactly write similar things to me, but have been equally as kind and supportive). But the problem with Wattpad for me is discovery and success. You need hundreds of thousands of reads to really get something out of your writing other than just 'reads'. I know that my writing isn't great, but I want to start taking it more seriously and Wattpad may not be that for me, but who knows. I guess I'm just testing all out till I find something that works.

But I'm not putting my serious work on here until I'm done editing it so wattpad has been a good 'share as you go' apportunity to get feedback as I write.

I'm also from Wattpad, but then i stopped for some time because of school work. When i came back, it was completely changed that i dont even recognize it anymore. so yeah, i got disheartened, and i discovered tapas

I'm still on WP, but then I'm also on Tumblr, FB and Twitter. I believe in keeping all my options open. The grass may be greener on another platform but it just might mean a different kind of fertilizer is present.
I can't expect any of the platforms to be perfect and to meet my needs exactly. But I do agree that WP does not focus on talent and that, for the most part, it's a popularity contest.
That implies I have no control, that I cannot improve my craft to impact my viewership. I don't like that because then what's the point.
Tapas still has a long way to go to have literary impact. As an artwork platform, it's brilliant and I must admit, I do enjoy reading my subscribers work.

I agree. I joined WP to get feedback on my first novel. Everyone loved it but no agent/publisher did. I needed honest feedback. It took me many frogs before I found an honest prince. Now it's with a publisher.

The forums are good for feedback, but the comments are far from that. And even in the forums it's hard to find someone who will commit. I'm glad you found someone though! And goof luck publishing <3 i know it can be a difficult proccess, but you've got this!!

I guess I am a Wattpad refugee as well. I sort of cleared out my Wattpad profile in search of starting all over a year ago. I updated a story that I thought was pretty good. Absolute silence. Weeks passed and nothing. I updated a fanfiction (not even of a mainstream thing, not even something I put serious effort into), and within two weeks I had a hundred followers and 30,000 reads on the fanfic.

I found Tapas a few months ago. Looked cool, but was hesitant to try it because it seems so comic-oriented. I guess, now, I'm basically all in.

I'm plotting out a story now and haven't posted anything yet. I probably will by the end of this month.

I feel like the audience on Wattpad is a lot younger than here, but maybe that's really just a feeling. All these Harry Stiles fanfics and those of Korean boybands did take up a lot of space, though, so it doesn't surprise me that your fanfiction was so much more popular than your original fiction. It's always easier with fanfiction at first, I guess, but this is... quite a difference.

Yeah, definitely. I don't quite understand the trend of boy band fanfictions. My fanfiction wasn't even of the boy band nature. It was a fan fiction of a Hindi soap opera (that's been off air for more than five years). Not proud of it, but I'm going to call it a social experiment.

When I came on here a couple of months ago, I didn't even realize the forums existed. Not that great with technology other than Google docs and MS word, I'm afraid. It's nice to see there's such a friendly community.

Eh, I've written two and a half books solely fanfiction, so be proud of what you did, even if it was "just" to wiggle your fingers a bit.

Well AS I SAID there was some... commotion, and I really only got to see the discussion from the outside, but it is a bad look if an Irish woman criticizes the Paid Stories program for having stereotypes in them (the usual leprechaun et.al) and then is... well, let go from the Ambassadors. I have no idea what went on behind the scenes, but that's what Wattpad's so bad about, too: transparency. You can't expect people to trust you with their work when you let homophobes and gun "enthusiasts" and whatnot run rampant while ignoring minorities or outright contributing to their marginalization.

I am still on Wattpad and have found a few friends and bookclubs there I like that are active and give nice responses to my stories or appreciate my responses.

However, there are a lot of stories popular there that really get my hackles up and the community there seems SUPER stuck on their artificial rules for Werewolf stories. Like there is a strict number of rules that the more popular werewolf stories have to follow and they are kinda...sexists and a little abusive. I haven't even dug onto the homophobia part, but I have seen a little bit of the racism.

Just a lil.

I think so far I like it here a bit more. I am a little sad at the 15,000 character limit, but only because I have to cut down my chapters (which means I'll have a few days where I double post because of it). I am still trying to figure out the follower aspect of it a bit, but I like it so far! I may abandon Wattpad for here if I notice more of my DeviantArt pals coming here :3
