And does making a dedicated tipping page help?
No, not at all. It changes nothing. By now everyone's seen at least a dozen tipping episodes.
As a reader I can give you 2 recommendations to improve your tips.
1) Engage your readers:
Reply to their comments, take an interest, don't just post your content.
Don't be a stranger, be a friend.
You'll make an impression on your audience if you interact with them, and you'll be rewarded by it. People are more eager to help their pal than a random internet dude.
To make my point I'll compare a popular comic with a comic that struggles to make it to trending.
The Flying Ship has around 5k readers, it started on December 2016 and it's been featured on the spotlight. These are it's top 10 Tippers:
Shiloh has less than 700 subscribers and it started on January 2017. These are it's top 10 Tippers:
As you can see the difference is overwhelming. Not only are the amounts significantly higher, so is the number of tippers.
They are both good comics with beautiful art style. The only difference is that the creators of Shiloh interact a lot more with their audience.
2) Make a tipping incentive. Give them something to strive for. Organize a random lottery. A weighted raffle, or simply give something to the top tipper.
For prizes you can offer an avatar, a small sketch or a phone wallpaper. Whatever works for you.
See? Joanne's got the right idea.
