How NSFW is too much NSFW?

Hey guys!

I'm new here, and I've decided to make a webcomic, both as a means to practice my art and to share a story I'm enthusiastic about rn.

The thing is, it's very smutty. The nudity is strong. Them Ts and Ds are all over. Ofc, the comic is not all about sex, there's a plot and story behind it, but the sex IS part of the story, like, it would be kinda hard to get the story without the steamy parts.

So I need to ask. How much nudity is too much nudity for Tapas? I read the disclaimer, it says nudity and mature themes are okay as long as it doesn't spread hate or is plain pornography. BUT WHAT IS THE LIMIT.

Are phalluses okay? I think boobs are okay, but are sexual boobs fine? Is the vajayjay too much? Can the mayonaisse shooter come in contact with the fleshy flower? Are them fluids free to flow? Or if we were to go into keeping it less explicit, can you per say, draw the action, without showing the actual genitals touching. Like idk, a vase or a mysterious ray of sunshine is on the way? Anyone with two eyes and a brain knows what is coming in contact with what but no actual bits are shown in detail?

If needed I can go more into detail about what the story is about, so, feel free to ask me any questions.

Someone please help me out. I'll be eternally grateful.

From the comics I've read, you can show the sex scenes but you need to censor the body parts, so no free view of peens or vayjays (I don't know about boobs though, probably safe to censor at least the nipples). So you can do the mosaic or blurring out or hot dogs or the tactically placed objects. And tagging the episodes as mature of course.

Definitely the best idea, a mysterious ray of sunshine out of the vase. In addition to what @amberberry wrote, no boobs allowed too, maybe the nipples censoring will do. Basically, censor the hell out of it

If you really wanted to go for it, you could probably attempt to submit your work to see if it can make the mature section.
But yeah, just throw some censoring over the saucy stuff and call it a day!

Thanks for the advice! Right now I'm trying to familiarize myself more with some comics with mature tags on here to see what can be done. The rule seems to see to censor a lot so I guess I'll just add a ton of objects in the way.

That is vague and means nothing. It is not currently an option for people. "We will be opening up submissions in the near future" is extremely vague. They give no timeline, no options, no details. Most of that paragraph, in fact, talks about how they select for their premium content. IE reaching out to individual creators to make specifically curated stories. Meaning you cannot reach out to them about it. Given the sheer volume of comics there are out there, the odds of being included in this outreach may as well be zero.

Also "Aim for the mature section" does not answer the question at hand, because again, it isn't actually an option right now.

Focus on what is currently an option: using the "NSFW" flag that censors the whole page until you click that you consent to view it. And be aware of content guidelines.

Per the rules: "Don’t post content that is predominantly sexual in nature, or intended primarily as an aid to sexual gratification." So you can have suggestive content and sexy stuff, but not outright smut. It does allow for what it calls "non-graphic sex and nudity" but does not define that further. Which usually means it's completely subjective. But 90% of the time means don't show the bits, especially on men.

TL;DR: Look at the "Mature content" section of the Content and Community Guidelines because that's all we've got to go on.

Also, more generally: Finding a good place for smutty comics is next to impossible in the current internet climate. Especially on anything that has something the iOS app store. See: Tumblr.

I've been trying to find a place to host a few smutty comics I've been planning, but there isn't much. Places like Gumroad allow you to sell your goods, but it's not quite the same as a community based thing. But Tapas definitely is not the place for the moment.

I mean, I can always censor the hell out of it and put up the explicit version up on patreon or something. If someone only wants to get the story, they can view the censored version for free, and if they wish to see the goods in all its glory, they can get it on patreon for a few bucks on patreon.
Last time I checked as long as it's drawn and not irl nudity patreon is chill with it.
That's also something you could try in the comics you wish to do, depending on your ideas ofc. Rn it is a bit tricky to show NSFW stuff freely online.

I am now imagining two versions of a raunchy sex scene for a comic: one in all its, erm, glory... and another with dancing fig leaves wiggling over the censored bits, or blinking multicolored Christmas lights, or some other humorous but semi-obnoxious animation. And a note at the bottom saying "to see the au naturel version, please visit my patreon account at..." lol.

Aren't there some ads out there that show a montage of suggestive stock footage (someone opening a wardrobe, train entering a tunnel, kettle whistling, etc) in place of the scene for obvious reasons? That could be kinda funny though it's a tough one to translate to a comic censor.
