I am in camp 'Almost Never', but closer to 'Never'. I think I might have actually said a bleep-worthy curse word maybe...3 times over the course of my whole life?? And that's a generous estimate...

Mentally, though, I curse like a sailor. XD I think it really does have cathartic qualities (which I desperately need)...although I still can't see myself saying that stuff out loud. Sometimes I even try, but my mouth is just physically unable to form the words. The aversion is that strong. ^^; I would blame my parents, but I know they never actually cared about that stuff...

I bring this up because I've noticed this peculiar new trend on social media where, every once in a while, a handful of commenters will descend upon a post that contains profanity and say things like, "I don't see why the f-word was needed to make your point" or "if you want people to respect your statements, you shouldn't use that kind of language".

Ugh...so sanctimonious...I say this as someone who clearly doesn't personally approve of using profanity: if word choice is such a huge deterrent to your acceptance of other people's viewpoints that it takes precedence over everything else, YOU are the one with the biggest problem.

Often. If I'm around someone who doesnt curse(and children), then I try to be respectful and keep it in check; sometimes I may use the substitute words...I dont have to curse/swear, but I do say what I feel- and if I'm feeling that curse word, it's coming out.

I try to not curse when writing but I'm a dirty potty mouth in real life XD doesn't help that my family is full of people who swear like it's a second tongue =P

Actually depends on what language I use. I curse all the time in French, my mother tongue. But I use old curses, so it's usually fine
In English it's a bit less, as most curses involve religion and I really don't like it.

The rule for the 'F-word' in the house was "It needs to be in a sentence and make sense. You're not allowed to throw it in where it doesn't make sense or say it on it's own. The exception to the rule of saying it alone if you hurt yourself and need to say it as your 'cry out in pain' response."

I have a couple of pages coming up in my webcomic- I try to keep the profanity to a minimum, but I'm really debating on a fight scene where Ray [Thunder] is dropping a couple of "sh*t!" bombs...

If "damn" or "hell" are lumped in there, then I'm always cussing, but honestly, these words are so tame now compared to back then. I don't consider them as curse words anymore lol so that's why I picked almost never

Far as anything else goes.. I make a conscious effort to not use any profanity, partially bc of my Christian background back when I was younger, but I also prefer to not use it for the sake of being more formal with my words. I dunno, I don't find it all that necessary to prove a point. My writing on the other hand is more open to it, bc characters are characters, not me. They can cuss up a storm for all I care, but probably not lol

I grew up in the 80s and 90s all my friends cussed and I just picked the habit. Also I worked at Target and home depot where that habit got even worse. I try to curb my foul mouth these days though.

On the (written) Internet, very little. Cursing is about immediate feelings for me. It does not translate into writting.

I don't use the religious curses in English either, unless they are so old and obsolete they are not recognizable as such.

I voted "almost never". Would vote "never" but while I curse like, once per five years in my first language I sometimes drop the f bomb in English. Though I curse like a sailor in my mind when I'm furious. xD

I'd say very often. So often that it's very difficult not to add swearing all the time in my comic (there's a specific reason for this lol)

It feels weird to swear irl though. Maybe it's because I'm not used to it (can't swear in school and around family) but mentally and on the internet? I swear a whole fucking lot

Does this poll count for internal cursing, or external cursing?
Because I say the F word in every other sentence in my head but very rarely will I curse out loud and will try to avoid it as much as I can.

Well, it's supposed to be for external cursing...but I must admit, I'm surprised by the number of people who are only foulmouthed in their heads. If I'd known about that before, I might have considered it when I made the poll. ^^;

I often drop "f bomb" is Russian Especially when I'm talking about complicated mathematics with friends (fortunately, I hold myself, when I talk about it with professors).

Almost always. I'm sometimes speak with only curse words, especially in emotional/stressful/painful situations. Other time I'm cursing very often.
But only in Russian. English swearing is so...I don't know how to say, but I don't like it at all.
