How to Increase Tumblr Interaction

So my busiest social media account is my Tumblr but, apart from likes and occasional reblogs, there's not much interaction. What do you guys do to get a little extra engagement?

One little problem is that I'm an ESL comic so I can't do anything too wordy like Q&As or I'll alienate followers who don't have a lot of English. (However, don't let me stop you suggesting stuff like that for other folks.)

So I'm ready! Throw your ideas at me.

You could possibly do one of those palette or emote challenges and open it up to fanart.

I've seen some people do 'Ask the OCs', which is sort of a Q&A but you would be drawing things to accompany it at least.You can also take suggestions or requests if you have the extra time for it.

I find tumblr to be my least interactive social media platform so I'm also gonna lurk this thread for ideas. ( ･ิω･ิ)

I guess post memes, fan arts and cute things. That seems to get people but... chances are they won't like or care about your original work, its very difficult. You have to figure out how to get people to like your own content. I made a post of photo of a seal with a caption and that has 15,000 notes but my art can barely get 2 so for me idk ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I find properly tagging your comics, especially with tags that will reach your target audience, very important.

I think people also want to know who you are as an artist, and a bit about your 'mission statement' for your comic! If you're doing something helpful and unique like ESL comics that would be really good thing to put first. In your blog description, as well as making a kind of 'advertisement' post to sell yourself that can be spread around/reblogged. Half of the comics I follow on tumblr are in part because I liked the life/aspirations of the person who is making them.

i do actually kinda get the sense that the blogs who get some interaction are ones who talk about themselves. they gain a face that an audience can connect to that way. palette and expression ask games are a good way to start talking to peeps for sure! or any kind of "ask me" game... it was fun when i did one where i had to choose between two things? and i kinda drew simple doodles to go along with my rambly answers haha;;; but also this was all fandom related. butyea i dont rly know lol.
humour is the strongest weapon, i think.

Humor OR if you draw super kawaii relationship fluff that'll give a reader diabetes, I've found.

Thanks! I've not heard of this before and would be okay with the language barrier too. Could do the emoticons when I start doing emotions in the comics.

Yeah, I've seen people do that and want to as well... I need to sit down and think about how best to clearly advertise this.

Cool idea. Now "esl comic" is my first tag.

I may do a bit of that but I'm reluctant... as it's for kids, I don't want to accidentally give the parents ammo to stop them reading. It's really hard to say when you might do or say something they'll disapprove of. But I'm sure little bits and pieces would be all right.
