How to use a Discord server for your own personal gain

Mmm...so I need to host some audio files for a new project, and after much aimless research I found that you can do it with a Discord server. So now, after a full year of having an account, I'm probably gonna actually have to learn how to use it. X[

So I'd appreciate it if anyone familiar with the...thing, could suggest things I should be aware of, precautions and helpful hints and all that.

Like, are servers searchable (as in, could someone find my stuff even if I don't invite them)? Are uploaded files searchable? How can the links to uploaded files be broken, if at all? To be honest, I'd prefer if there was a way to break them; I feel weird about having my own (unreleased) music sit around on Discord indefinitely...

I don't think you can search links to files but servers you can. There's an option for searching servers and communities.

My big pieces of advice are:

Come up with a solid set of rules for your server about what people can and can't do. Make sure there's a private admin room and pick just a few people to be admin.
Turn off the thing that lets anyone invite anyone to the server and only turn it on for people you trust.
Do not have a room for ranting unless you really trust everyone on the server because you've known them for years and you're sure things won't get out of hand.

i don't think anyone can find files uploaded to discord without a direct link to them, so you don't have to worry about people finding your work.

however, i don't think you can break a link afterward.

You need to assign your server as a community server and you need 5000 members to be searchable.

Hiya! I've been using Discord for years. I run two servers (one for art friends and another for DC Comics) and I'm apart of several other people's servers. I also have a private server for me and my boyfriend. Yes, anyone can see everything you have ever said publicly if you both are users in a server and yes, that is searchable if it was posted in public channels (the different chats within servers). Files, images, etc are all searchable as well. You can delete messages (and files) but most people don't bother doing that unless they say something dumb/offensive. If you would like to use Discord as a space to host your music, simply set up your own server and make it private. Then no can join and you can upload and delete your files as you see fit. (I actually do this with my own art and music.) Just be wary there is a size limit unless you upgrade your server which costs $$$ ...I have found it works with most image files and music files, however.

(And the question about searchable servers was already answered so I won't answer that one!)
