How trusted can a collaboration be between both parties or even three from different countries

While my experience is not heavily related to Tapas, I can definitely answer this

I'm from the United States, all the way in Chicago Illinois, and I've done several collaborations with a young woman from Brazil. She's also an aspiring artist, and her skills are amazing. Most of the collaborations we've done have been more art-based than comic-based, and it was more conceptual art for stories we planned together.

I will say that before we got to this level, we first met as writing buddies, taking turns adding parts as we went. Then, we got to learn more about each other, what we love about drawing, and our day to day lives.

I've touched on this type of topic before here: Building Connections. Whether your partner is in the same country as you or in a different country, I still think this topic would definitely help you with the nature of trust in a collaboration.

The bottle line is that your collaboration is as trusting as you make it. You have to sorta get to know someone if you're going to be doing a big project together. It helps knowing who you work together with in order to vision what you're working on.

As long they can communicate it will be okay, its less about the people from different countries but more on the person itself self.

I didn't meet any of my collaborators on tapas, but I have worked with international folks on projects. It doesn't appear to be any different than working with any other client that I haven't met in person? Of course most of the work I've done has been paid (although sometimes I've done work for charity too). For example a lady from a German Shepard dog rescue asked me if I would donate some art for their t-shirts. I did the art and within a month, she sent me a free t-shirt and a picture of one of the dogs paw stamped as a thank you. I had never met her before, but it seemed a successful venture.

I have another person in India I periodically work with. We both are artists, and sometimes I pay him, sometimes he pays me for work, it just depends. As long as payment is reasonable and the work is done on time, it's not a big deal. I've also done just pure collab stuff with him (no money involved) and its also worked out well. I met him through another comic creator forum.

You just need good communication skills and clear expectations and usually it works out.
