Well this is probably one of my sillier posts, but considering my last one maybe that's not such a bad thing.
Okay, okay; it seems like nowadays when someone brings up the word "aesthetic" its in a joking sense, but I think it's a pretty important concept. The overall feel and direction of a piece is something you want to think about when you go out creating. Whenever I find something I like I'll try to pick it apart to see what it is that's got me so interested. Why is that artists' character designs so appealing? Oh, it's because they use a lot of s-curves and round shapes! Why do I like all of these different artist's color choices? Oh, it's because all of them are using warm bases with cool shadows. Why is that building I walked past today so pretty and vintage looking? Oh, it's because it's using Edwardian architecture techniques! It's kind of nice to pop the hood on these things, and see how you can incorporate the stuff you like into your own work and one thing that's got me a bit curious is this music video.
It's a K pop music video from a while ago. That first minute and twenty-three( and the rest actually) are amazing! The colors, the low angles, the cgi clouds, the composition, the music, not to mention all those little gadgets and set pieces! I think the reason I've been drawn back to this video is the setting. I've (FINALLY) been working up the nerve to work on the story I want to tell and one thing I've felt a little stuck on is the setting. I've got some pretty broad strokes, but I'm still trying to work out the finer parts should the characters need to be involved in them. I've been super interested in some sub genre type works such as solarpunk, which is a sister to steampunk (which is a sister to cyberpunk), but I'd still like to draw inspiration from other sources. Even if I can't get a super specific genre name to explore or "inspire" me, I'd still like to see some other stuff similar to this, just for fun. Outside of just basic fantasy, how would you describe the "feel" of this music video? Have you watched or read anything similar to this recently? Got a book that reminds you of this? A comic? Movie? Manga? I absolutely love me a good animated film, short or otherwise, so don't skimp out on those either!
Either way, I just love this piece so much I'd like to get into it's head. Even if you can't drop me a term I still hope you enjoy the video! Let me know what you think below!
