I got banned on Instagram instantly after registration - why?

Hello there!

I got a really weird problem today. I'm a total rookie with social media but I decided today to create Instagram account to promote my work and all that stuff. But right after registering I got... banned?

I really have no idea what happened. I going through the process of reactivating the account but I wish I knew what went wrong.

Do you have any idea what was the reason so I could avoid that in the future?

No. I just clicked the registration button and got banned. That's why I'm curious what happened.

Did you use a bad username or email?

Email uses the same nickname that I use, the username that I wanted to have was "Moshimitsu_art". Probably I missed something but there was icon suggesting that everything was alright.

That’s really weird. It almost sounds like a bug or something? Maybe you should try creating the account again and see if it works.

I tried but then it showed that both email and username were used. I've sent an email to Instagram team. But my boyfriend had similar problem - they banned him even though he wasn't uploading anything and there was no particular reason.

That is so strange! Hopefully they can unblock the account for you so you can have your username back.

Yeah, I hope so too. It was the first time I tried to get involved in social media, especially since Instagram seems to be a pretty good shot, but if it happens again I'll just have to try with Twitter or Tumblr.

Oh that's so weird, I had the exact same thing happen when I first tried to make an instagram account! Same sort of situation where I was trying to have my name and then _art for the username. I ended up using a backup email and trying the same name without the underscore and that worked. Seems like a bizarre bug.

Could be the use of the underscore. i was just thinking it's an IP ban. I got banned from logging into any Playstation stuff for a while because my router cycled to an IP address that was IP blocked by them - this is why IP blocks don't always work! All IPs are on rotational unless you pay extra OTL

@kaetana Well, it may be a solution. I should give it a try if the team won't do anything.

@nostalgicroxas If that's the case, then Instagram is the worst site/app with signing up I've ever seen. It would be more logical to block the registration and show the conditions that were not fulfilled instead of banning a person that's not even a user. Then I'll just have to remember about it when the team unblocks me. At least we can laugh it off

I once got banned when making A new account when I accidentally used a non existent account (I forgot the position of the dot...).

Hey I know a little about this - you might've been hit by Instagram's anti-bot/anti-troll filter. Especially if it was a ban and not an account creation error. This could be for literally any reason (presence or absence of certain cookies, IP location and service provider, the name you used and how fast you filled out the sign-up, anything).

Just go through the account reinstatement process, which is actually in and of itself a form of checking that you're legit (since a real bot would just try again). There's not much you can do about it if it does turn out to be a troll detection flaw. They use algorithms that don't necessarily minimize false positives so that they can actually make a dent in the tide of bots and trolls.

This might be actually the case. When I was searching for the reasons, the bot case came up several times but never when it came to registration process so I wasn't paying much attention to that. Thank you so much!

Were you on the same IP? Might be a IP ban.

@skicoak No, we don't share it most of the time.

Right now the case is solved. Probably it was just anti-bot security, especially with my boyfriend since when he first started using the app, he didn't like or upload anything. Hope it won't happen again.

Argghhh I tried to register an account the other day and this happened to me Honestly I just searched the forums with hopes I'm not the only one I got this "Something went wrong with creating your account" message and that was it...
Now I can't register with the username or email I used at that attempt, even though they aren't actually in use on instagram. I tried a different email and name, same thing happened... I wanted an account mostly just for lurking and following people but I guess nope, I'll be unable to make one forever, ugh. Is it because I'm on a PC?
