• Who are my friend or having personal connection with me.
• Can accept or ignore criticism, and don't act like people are attacking and harassing them over it.
• Don't think their art is above all, or give a vibe that they're superior because they draw (insert word here). It always amuse me when I see those kind of people flop.
• Aren't using their fans as a kind of white knight, mindless praise generator, or ATM machine.
  Artist (especially popular ones) who engages, support, and reprimand their fans if they do something wrong (like harassing people), are something to be looked up to.
• Aren't all about drama shit. Nobody wants to follow an art account with 2/3 of it being drama, or follow a drama-mongering people (except for the lulz).
• Aren't too obsessed with something or someone.
  I have seen enough decently skilled and uniquely styled artist devolving into a botched copy into a popular artist's or a franchise's art style. Sure, it's their choice and I don't hate them for it, but it's simply not what I like.
• Draw their original creations instead of fanart all the time, this is just my preference.
• Aren't drawing gross or illegal shit like lolicon gang-bang incest tentacle gore scat hentai.
• Who aren't using other struggling (truer word of 'aspiring') artist as leverage.
  You comment on a gullible young budding artist fake praises and such to give a false hope so they follow you, then yeet away when they already followed you and unfollow them? You host a contest of drawing your shitty character just to milk off free art then yeet away when they ask you for prize? You commented on other people's work to promote yours? Good, I hope you become starving artist.

I love the art, I don't love the people. You can be a monster at heart (well, there are limits to how monstrous you should be), if you do quality work, it is quality work. I will enjoy it. I might even worship it. If that makes your ego grow, I hope you choke on it. But not before having completed your work.

• share tutorials and process of their art!! (Like Lord, i hate it so much when i ask a good artist "how did you get so good with anatomy?" and all i get in response is a "practice "...like, okay, i know that, but you must have a method or something. Sometimes it feels like they wanna keep their secrets to themselves and i hate that.

• Who's not egocentric. I know too many artists on instagram that keep posting about them and their life (pets, fancy food, beutiful places and so on...) and when they finally draw something is themselves. Don't get me wron, ootd are cute but i thought you used to draw, now that you have 1mln followers you just post selfie of you xD

• drawing almost everyday and gives the nice example to the amateurs

• someone who's not obviously looking for growing their fanbase with forced fanarts or other over-exagerated promotions method (promotion is good but i always thought that you need to be moderated and not look desperate while you do that)

• who don't criticize me for something outside my art. I'm good if you give me some feedback (though i'll trash every critic that is purely an insult), but you can go on saying "you don't like art, you're only using it for more followers"....excuse me? You might say my art is not good at all, but you don't know anything about me as a person.

• who's not toxic and that don't always and only talking bad about themselves or people who surround them (i used to be like that, but after meeting someone like me i quickly changed my attitude and realized i was doing it wrong)

• who draw with different art styles and techniques! I love elastic artists, some of them like to stick to one theme for the rest of their art life (you can spot them because they only post THAT thing and nothing else) but it's nice to see a watercolor piece of pin-ups next to a charcoal dogs family portrait (as an instance)

the only things I'd say are nice but honestly we can only hold other people to so many expectations

• embraces their style whatever it is; i see so many worry about inconsistency of style but to me that's just a sign of versatility and i really wish there wasn't so much pressure on having a defined style

• happy and I don't mean this always smiling ray of sunshine but the type who can roll with the good or bad and accept moments of negative or positive emotions but when they can still hold a smile even if only a little

Just to clarify, I wasn't trying to impose anything. Every artist wonders about their image (if they're trying to become popular for any reason) and I thought this topic would create an atmosphere where people could describe which traits appeal to them and which don't. I've learned plenty of interesting things already, in that respect.

Besides, 'acting however you like', whether you're an artist or not, doesn't always come up roses. In general, people like people who act in certain ways (for instance, not like jerks) and to think that you should be respected no matter how you choose to treat people is naive at best.

I'm just saying that people are different, and putting stress on artists to also be some disney-princess level serene person when creating art is already hard for your mental state seems iffy at best...

Those aren't exactly Disney Princess-level expectations...most of the people here are describing images that are fairly easy to attain for most of the human population. =/

Besides, as I already stated, everyone has expectations for EVERYONE, whether they like it or realize it or not. And having those expectations isn't the same as demanding that other people meet them. You want your boss to be a certain type of person, don't you? Or your spouse, or even your family members. At the very least, you have list of ways you DON'T want them to behave. That's all this topic is supposed to be.

Keep in mind that the prompt is, "I like an artist who-". If you're an artist who's not concerned with being liked, then this topic simply shouldn't matter to you.

Most of these lists are downright wholesome but this could just as easily be twisted into lists about artists that share the reader's politics or belief systems.

Hear me out...I don't think that's a bad thing. ^^

Not that the whole 'I only like Christian artists' idea appeals to me, but the possibility that someone could come in here with an incredibly biased viewpoint doesn't exactly seem like a reason for this topic to be shut down. People like that exist, and artists should be just as aware of them as they are of people with normal expectations.

I mean, say one person like that posts here. Compared to the 10 or so people that clearly don't agree with that line of thinking; that's a sort of statistic in itself, isn't it? If someone sensitive enough to pay heed to a bigot actually looked through this topic, I think they'd realize before long that such things aren't realistic expectations that they should actually concern themselves with.

Politics and belief systems are just the big ticket items... just skimming the various lists above, there's discord about if the artist should be doing fan art or not, have a unique style or is adaptable and so on.

I'm not saying the topic needs shut down but I don't believe there's anything healthy about these lists of things artist are expected to adhere to be "liked".

Creators don't need to become politicians that drum up subscribers/likes by being agreeable to adopting the traits consumers expect of them.

When I look at the Mona Lisa, it doesn't matter if Da Vinci stole his neighbor's newspaper and yelled at dogs an kids that annoyed him.

That's a very valid point and I'm not dismissing it but if that's the case, shouldn't the potential collaboration start off with a mutual appreciation of each others work and not a checklist of things desired in an artist/collaborator//employee ?

There's something too...online dating maybe...about these list. It's saying it's not only about their storytelling/skills... they have to be all this other stuff too.
