So uh I'm not sure am I stupid or just couldn't find any info about this, but what kind of updates needs an mature content warning? Like, of course any gore or sex scenes, or something like that but do you need it if the comic contains swearing? if you have a warning in your comic description, do you still need to give the update the mature content warning if it has some?

Despite what the rules on Tapas might say, you don't need a filter for swearing. Tapas is supposed to be a site designed for teens, young adults and beyond. If these people can't see the world "shit" or "fuck" or "bitch" without freaking out, that's kind of their problem, not yours. My own work is filled with foul language and trust me, I have no intention of putting a filter on it any time soon because of it.

If you want to put a little warning in your description, that's up to you but when I see the Mature filter, I expect some hard core material, not the half baked excuse of vulgar language you'd hear on a school playground.

Tbh, I play safe than sorry.
So I mark my episodes to be mature, just because of some pretty text heavy cursing that I don't feel like censoring.

If you still have questions, even after reading the community guidelines, I'd suggest that you email staff about it? Maybe they can either make sure that the guidelines are less vague (as I think I remember that they were??) or leave it without a mature warning and wait for someone to report it (they'll then consider whether or not it needs censoring).

hey, thanks I think I can manage now, since my comic is not going to have that much cursing. Not so sure will I leave it be or just censor half of the word maybe? anyway, thanks for help ^^

My rules of thumb:

If your comic doesn't normally have swearing in it and you think you have a slightly younger crowd, tag it.

Always tag swear words if they target ethnicities and sexual-orientation.

good point my comic should have a bit older crowd tho, since I'm going to make strip comics about my adult life. but I think I'll still do it if there will be cursing.

It depends on how frequent the swearing is. If its light/mild, then its fine to go ahead and post your work without needing to update your readers on it. Though, if it adds to whatever's mature in your comic or story, then an update or message prior to posting (or even during the first page or your work) may be necessary. You don't always want people jumping in blind, and even though no one likes censorship or finds it foolish to be warned of swearing, it is kinda necessary to advise people what what will be (or might be) included in your work UNLESS its something you want to surprise people with from the get-go.

think of it like this, imagine a professional businessman is reading your comic and his boss is watching over his shoulder

when do you think giving people a heads up as an inappropriate page is about to come up is a good idea?

I think its passable for pages with swearing totally passable for a not needed warning unless the swear word is drawn in big shining glory like:

FUCKING SHITBAGS!!!!

unless the swear word is really lowkey and no one will notice it like:

you don't want the businessman to suddenly scroll down and see an unexpected giant swear word while his boss is watching.
