I need an anime (trying to get inspiration back)

The Morose Mononokean (Fukigen na Mononokean) is a really good one. I don't know if you've seen it already, but if you haven't, it's about a boy who gets roped into working for a teenage exorcist. The genres for it are supernatural and comedy.

Another good anime is Devils and Realist (Makai Ouji), which is a couple of years old, so I don't know if you've seen it already, but if you haven't, it's about a boy in high school who is a "realist" and doesn't believe in things that can't be explained by science, then a few demons come and say that he's the elector and he needs to elect a new leader for hell. The genres are supernatural, school, and comedy.

Handa-kun is also really good and funny. It's about a high school boy who is super popular, but since everyone is too afraid to approach him, he thinks that everyone hates him. The genres are school and comedy.

Servamp is one of my favorites, buuuut I dunno if you'd like it, but I definitely recommend trying it out. It's about a high school boy who picks up a stray cat off the street, which happens to be a vampire, and he accidentally makes a pact with him and they fight against an evil vampire named Tsubaki. The genres are supernatural and school.

One of the romance ones that I really like is Actually, I am..., which is about a high school boy who accidentally discovers that the girl he has a crush on is actually a vampire. He then goes on to meet a bunch of other monster girls at his school (alien, werewolf, ghost, etc). The genres are supernatural, school, and comedy.

ANOTHER really good one is Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, which is about a girl who confesses to her crush, but he thinks she's asking for an autograph, and he turns out to be a famous shoujo mangaka. The genres for this one are comedy and school (and sort of romance?).

So, last but not least is my absolute favorite anime, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens. Again, I don't know if you'll like this one, because it's not really under any of the genres you like, but it's super good, so try it out if you want. It's about a group of hitmen, and it's a little violent, so if you're not into that, then I wouldn't suggest watching it. The genres are crime and tragedy (I think lol)

Also, a good k-drama movie that you might like is Midnight Runners, which is about two police academy cadets who go out to flirt with women, but end up witnessing a girl get kidnapped. (I suggest using DramaFever to watch it). The genres for this one are comedy and crime, I guess?

Michiko to Hatchin is a really awesome less known anime. It’s about this bad ass ex-con chick who takes her ex-boyfriend’s kid and they travel across fictional anime South American fighting gangs and stuff. Really good character development and storytelling and just really unique ideas. I totally recommend it! And this one actually has a pretty good English dub too.

Ancient magus Bride: A a very European influenced fantasy about a girl being bought by a mage to become his apprentice in magic.(fantasy, Romance)

Cells at work(very new): an action which educates you on the ongoing process of the human body(mostly the immune system).(action with ship tease)

• Ancient Magus Bride - seconding this rec. definitely falls under the supernatural / romance genre but has an overall more serious tone than usual high school themed stories.

• Korean Odyssey (kdrama) - very strong romantic elements which is apparent from the first ep. it's a retelling of journey to the west that re-imagines the characters in a modern day setting. despite it's overt romance subplot, the main plot is really interesting and i'd highly recommend it! the leads are also adults in their 30s so if you're tired of hs settings, i'd rec this.

• While You Were Sleeping (kdrama) - not as supernatural as the first two genres, but there is a rather supernatural aspect to it as the main character can foresee people's deaths. the romantic subplot is really overt in this one and i highly rec this one for the romance. the leads have a really funny and almost natural dynamic.

• Angels of Death - an ongoing horror / suspense anime. it doesn't really fall under the romantic or supernatural genre, but it's good and i'm personally a big fan of the original game it was based on. fandom, i think, is pretty big atm considering the surge of interest thanks to the anime.

• Devil's Line - i honestly can't recommend the anime in good faith because i didn't like the pacing. but, the manga is really really good and is definitely one of the best supernatural romance manga i've ever read. i love the dynamic between the mcs and the way the author develops their relationship. i've read a lot of shoujo and josei manga over the years but i don't think i've ever read one that ever topped the way the relationship was written here. and even if the romance is a very big factor in the plot, it doesn't really overshadow it nor is it forgotten to develop the story.

• Goblin (kdrama) - might be up your alley since it's got romantic, supernatural and school elements. the mc is a high schooler who gets involved with some supernatural stuff and develops a relationship with the titular goblin who's the the center of all the supernatural conflict. real good stuff.

• Confessions of an MMO Junkie - haven't watched this myself but i've heard a lot of good reviews about it! as the title implies, the mc is a recovering mmo junkie who eventually falls in love. surprisingly enough, the mc is a female gamer! we don't get much of those as mcs haha.

• Koi wa Ameagari no You ni - the romance is a very important part to the story but i can't actually say that it's a romance story lmao. regardless, it's really good and the characters are well developed.

I don't really watch much romance anime anymore since a lot of them don't really grip me as much, so I've recommended more kdramas instead. ;;

But if you're looking to get into fandoms specifically with a big fanbase and lots of people and engagement, I'd suggest perhaps giving the games Granblue Fantasy or Fate Grand Order a go! Both have supernatural and fantasy elements and have been adapted into an anime. While the romance isn't an integral aspect to both series, there's a lot of enjoyment to be found in pairing up characters!

If you want a really unique and inspiring supernatural anime, watch Humanity Has Declined. It's super obscure but it is my FAVOURITE supernatural anime. It's got everything from fairies who are addicted to drugs, to a dead chicken mafia. It's so damn good I can't give away too much.

Seconding this! I was supposed to suggest this as well but I wasn't so sure if it fit the criteria. It doesn't have any romance in it, but it is very absurd and engaging!

I love "Haibane renmei". It's sort of supernatural/spiritual, maybe existential, in a way?
It has a very soothing color palette and the designs of the environment and characters are pretty interesting.
I always feel refreshed after watching it

-Lovely Complex, it's my favorite RomCom/Shoujo anime/manga. Please watch it.

-Kimi Ni Todoke (you probably already know that one though...)

-Mermaid Melody. This one is kind of strange. It's a magical girl show about mermaids, and they fight by singing. Haha. I love it though, and the music is actually quite nice. Though, if you're ever not in the mood to listen to the music, you can skip the singing (Like, big surprise, they'll win 90% of the time) and you'll end up finding a really really really cute romance story in there. <3

-Fushigi Yuugi. A good mixture of fantasy/adventure and romance. It's really good, but it's got that 90's problem where sometimes the pacing is just a mess. It's really worth your time though, and it's super long!

-Kyo Kara Maoh. This one is mostly adventure/fantasy/comedy. There's a hint of romance in there, (amongst two boys, but I swear it's well written) This one is SUPER LONG. It's one of my favorites as well. Please watch it.

-Get Backers. This is more technically a shounen, but it's really fun! The characters are really endearing, even the villains, and the comedy is top notch. It's also one of my favorites. <3

Also, a note, all of these except for Kimi Ni Todoke, are not available on official streaming sites, so I'm sorry, but you'll have to look around to find them. If any of these interest you, I can tell you where to stream them easiest. <3 Hope I gave good suggestions.

Kare Kano - though centered around romance, also feels like a case study of two individuals, and how relationships generally work. Very interesting and charming - though the director (Hideaki Anno) leaves its production half way through - you can tell when you get to the episode where the characters are cut outs on icy pole sticks.

Revolutionary Girl Utena - You've probs already watched this, but it's well known for its visual representation.

Neon Genesis: Evangelion - because it's cool
It's got youngsters, but not exactly love stories - it's a cool story nonethelss!
