I need your help: What do u think about CHINA, in: CHINESE (people), KUNG FU, CITIES, HISTORY, etc.

i think that China has crazy pollution with heavy smog due to lots of factories where everyone works and makes all the cheap stuff everyone owns. i assume the people are hard-working and partly due to necessity, as in the lifestyle they're raised in. barely any free time. i remember at one point all sparrows were hunted down for some reason? and then they had to be re-introduced? also not allowed to have more than, like, 2 kids. if ya want a male heir and get a daughter, she might get... disposed of so the fam can try again.

that's as much as i can gather from my brain-space. i imagine it's got a bunch of inaccuracies but whatcha' gonn do.

In general? Okay, as an American, I think China is pretty cool all around. I think the people are good, I sometimes question the government and how strict it is. I'm REALLY worried about your environment and quality of life.
As for Kung Fu... THAT IS THE AWESOMEST THING EVER. Bruce Lee is still as badass as the day I first saw his movies.
I've always been curious about the Forbidden City. And Hong Kong, though I've heard its kind of its own city/state. Chinese history has always been pretty interesting. Chinese cinema is absolutely incredible, especially Jackie Chan and Donny Yen movies. Does that clear anything up?

I like that you mention kung fu because, heck yeah, who doesn't love kung fu? I also really dig wuxia film and fiction, just... Chinese cinema (especially when concerning Jiang Wen and Zhang Yimou) is amazing! Definitely agree with @nathankschulz there (although Donnie Yen's a Hong Kong actor, not from Mainland which I'm assuming is what we're talking about).

Now... historical, the "Three Years of Natural Disasters" (Mao Zedong), Tiananmen Square, The Three Kingdoms saga, sancia, inkwash painting, ART IN GENERAL (so much beautiful art from Chinese history), etc. etc.

For the people, it's mainly around how they perceive Confucian values (filial piety, ancestral lineage) and their ancient cultural practises in modern society. Very interesting!

Cities and important areas I immediately thing of -- Beijing, Guandong, Gaomi (thanks to Mo Yan), Hunan, Hubei, Luoyang/Chang'an (ancient).

I also think of goldfish! Sweet, adorable little goldfish~

Okay, so Hong Kong and China are kind of their own places. I was wondering about that.

That's a really complex question, but when I think of China the first thing that comes to my mind is the extreme racism my country has towards Chinese immigrants.

The second thing that comes to mind are mantou buns, because they are delicious.

I'm from US and have lived in China for several years so I have many opinions about China.

Generally the people of China have been extremely welcoming of me - I am white and have never felt any type of prejudice against me being a minority here. When I first came to China, there were few foreigners here and the foreigners that were in China were perceived as being rich so there would occasionally be someone who would try to take advantage of me to get some money out of the situation. These occasions were rare and recently there have been more and more foreigners coming to China so I don't see this often anymore (mostly because Chinese now realize that not all foreigners are rich )

I have had the opportunity to travel to many of the major tourist attractions in China and they are all amazing (if they aren't overcrowded with people - never visit the Great Wall during a Chinese holiday ). The history and art and culture are unlike anywhere else in the world.

Another thing that stands out for me is the food. Amazing. Minus the more "unique" things (duck blood, chicken feet, etc.) real Chinese food is some of the best in the world. So different than the "Chinese" food restaurants in the States. And so many different styles of cuisine from each different province.

Yes Chinese people do some things that generally aren't considered acceptable in most Western countries (cutting in lines, talking very loudly in public places, things like this). I don't think the Chinese are bad people because of this. This is the culture that everyone grows up with in China so people aren't doing these things to purposely be rude, it's perfectly normal for them. Since more foreigners are coming into China I have seen many foreigners yelling at Chinese or scolding them for doing these things. Honestly as a foreigner this is embarrassing as it's not our country and not our culture and not our place to tell the local people what is right and what is wrong.

Anyway, that's my thoughts based on a few years of living here. For me the pollution isn't very noticeable but I live in southeast China and not near Beijing or any of the major pollution zones.
