I want to drop my comic, but I'm scared and here's why:

i worked on my comic for like 100 years in row and the art style, the story and the character designs all look fancy but Tapas scared me off because of how indie authors have no place in this app anymore

Tapas is still a decent place to post a webcomic, although there's no need to make it your only place to post!

What are your goals for the comic?

Idk the story and the art style is decent and i put a lot of efforts and energy and time and even money into it so i rather want it to get the attention that it deserves...or get paid for what i'm doing...

This is kind of starting to read like “I put work into this I deserve to be compensated” and OH BOY do I wish that’s how it worked. You’re posting in an already saturated market on the Internet where most people would probably rather be watching TikToks anyway. In the attention economy, most comics rank pretty low. You are not OWED any measure of success because you put effort into your project. Otherwise everyone making them would be well compensated and everybody would want to do it.

If you’re doing this for the sole purpose monetary gain; either get out now because the payoff is usually unlikely and generally low OR deal with the idea that you’re going to have to grind for a long time before you see any type of payout

. I say this as someone who makes a living off of comics full time. It is hard and not ideal for most people. It took me over a decade to get somewhat comfortable and if my income was reliant on just one single webcomic platform I would be completely toast.

This looks incredible you have so much talent you can always try to publish if it doesnt gain traction you can always try elsewhere

Globalcomix and Webtoon are the other 2 big fish in the space, but there are some other comic hosting sites you can use:

https://www.thecomcraft.com/home is pretty new but they treat you well and are developing quickly
https://fables.pro/a/home I haven't used them, but some people I know say they're decent

If you have contained one-off short comics, r/comics is a great place to post. I also do a delayed mirror on bluesky, deviantart, and instagram. Twitter is a place I ought to be posting but haven't really done myself. None of these places are a good primary place to host a webcomic, but they are good places to advertise on. Of that group, I'd rate IG as the worst and DA as the best, but YMMV based on your content and social media engagement style.

I don't think we have no place here anymore. Surely, it's hard to find your audience, but you see. Everyone can post here, regardless the talent. And everyone who posts here is giving his best, regardless the personal experience.

What i want to say is: You have to market yourself first.
It's a hard way, also for me, who had already drawn for a publisher, but i guess, with enough effort, you will get sooner or later where you want to be.

It's not like for ten years, when you were good you automatically had a great fandom. Many artists grew big too.

Hey, it's better to post your story now vs never. Besides, think of it like this, if you get a head start on posting your story while its still obscured, you can get close to finishing it before it gets popular. Once it gets popular, quality can decline and you wont have time for breaks and the quality may go down. It reminded me of the creator of MHA where he used to post updates on the manga 3 times a month before it REALLY kicked up and as you can see, his updates changed from 3 times a month to once a month with some haituses possibly due to his health. My sister, just like you, has really amazing work that has potential to grow, but she refuses to post anything about her comic fearing that its not good enough. Please, dont hold yourself back. Just take a leap of faith. Rome wasnt build in a day

I think your comic looks like a lot of the very popular comics on Tapas. I was hanging out with a number of established indy comic creators who all said they weren't in it for the money so I decided to put mine on here for free and just see if anyone reacts. Search 'The Beauties' (yes, shameless self promotion).

You're fine just posting one chapter my friend! Don't do like my sister did and wait before posting a whole volume(it was just her excuse to procrastinate more). Think of one chapter a week being the taster course. I have 73 chapters of my novel posted, even though i only have 30 subs, I'm grateful for the obscurity so that I can edit if i need to. I used to think getting popular right away was the goal, but sometimes just getting the story out even if it never becomes a blockbuster film is a way to leave your mark in a way.

And tbh i dont want to lie abd be like "money doesn't matter to me" when in fact money helps me quit my 2nd job and just put my whole focus on my comic to get it done sooner. Now i can barely make one chapter a month because i have another job

Believe me, most of us do as well, but that is the reality...don't put all your eggs in one basket- there are other sites where you can post(depending on the content) your webcomic. The comics industry hasnt changed in all the time I've been around, so you're gonna have to figure a plan that works for you; like @Caro was saying, don't make your webcomic the "be all-end all" to all your problems...your art looks decent enough that you could do commissions- something that could supplement & make up for the lack of revenue that you may not be getting from your comic.

Gone are the days where a creator could sit back and make a decent amount off their comic alone...

I get wanting to quit working your "non art" job(I think about it all the time) but then I also think about how much more I'd be stressed if I had to rely on my art and art jobs to pay ALL of my bills; at the end of the day I like having [what little] extra monies to do things(sometimes that extra money secures me a table at a local con to SELL physical copies of my comics & other art) so I'm still working my non art job, and doing my art/comics stuff when I have down time.
