the thing is I still use the promo threads for my own comic  I just tend to stick to threads where people can choose to sub to my comic if they want to. I just completely avoid posting in sub for sub

After a while, you get used to just tuning them out.

....and tuning out the urge to tell people sub for sub is just generally a bad idea, because some people will never listen and always have some excuse about how it isn't fair, you can't tell them what to do, the other ways to increase numbers are impossible for them etc. etc. :sweat_01:

I've told people the reasons it's ultimately unhelpful for really growing an audience and developing their work to achieve their goals over and over again, but there are always new sub-for-sub threads, some of them even start with disclaimers like "please don't tell me why you think sub-for-sub is bad". :weary:

It's so true. Who wouldn't rather have 12 real readers than 120 fake ones :disappointed_relieved:
(I'd rather have 10,000 real subs though if we're waving magic wands)

Hahaha, wouldn't we all!? :cry_swag:

Getting engaged readers is really hard work and sometimes the grind to build a readership gets really demoralising, so I understand how people end up resorting to giving people subs, especially on a platform where you can compare numbers with people so easily.
But even though sub for sub is faster, definitely it's better to instead look at things you could spruce up to catch more attention from potential readers, like your cover design, banner and blurb, try promo threads based on genre/theme/style or threads where you post actual content (example, the current thread for funny out of context panels) and just always try to learn and refine your work and how you market it by observing what works well.

Keep at it! Have pride in your work! :hype_01:

I have to confess, I do occasionally take part in the sub4sub posts, but only for the ones that I am actually interested in reading. I also tell them to only sub back if they do enjoy what they read. I figure if they feel obligated to read something, best to give them an out if they don't like what they see.

I used to do sub4sub ( if i see promotion thread like this i still sub to everyone tbh) but i did notice that i lose few subs ( maybe 2 or 4) , while i never unsub ( what's the point if i subbed just to sub) some people do ,so it isn't good way to grow, but some people can/will stay even if they subbed because of sub4sub
