Icon opinion? Which should I use? What's more eye catching?

I have two icons I'm choosing between, one I just made and the old one I've been using and I realllly want an opinion. I also would like to know what kind of icons make you click on a comic? What's eye catching to you?

I see a lot of people who try to incorporate more than one character instead of just the main one and I like that. I technically have three main characters but one is the most... main. I'd really appreciate some opinions!

I like the dynamic angle of the old one, but I think it's fun to see the variety of characters in your new one too. Honestly, I think they're both good in different ways!

I really like the tentacle things in the original icon, though they're a little harder to make out in the new one. If they were more apparent in the new one, I think that'd make it the stronger pick.

Hmm I can try making them easier to see, I tried to make the first one just very bright and eye catching. Thank you!

I like the old one better. It's more simple and crisp and eye catching. (Although both are really nice!)

I agree that they're both good! But I like the old one best. It's less busy which works well for an icon.

Both of them are great, but I'm also gonna say the old one looks better. Considering most people will be seeing your thumbnail on the front page/fresh section/everywhere else besides your actual comic (especially if you have a banner for your comic, meaning your thumbnail won't show up when reading your comic) you want to make sure it's going to be simple, as it's gonna show up a lot smaller than it does usually; having that many characters in one shot (even if it's only three) might get too cluttered for readers to be able to make out at first glance.

Hell, if you take the text out of the new thumb and center the image, even that would be better IMO (the title being in the thumbnail is not super necessary either, but it's a preference thing).

Thanks for the input, I have gotten a 50/50 split everywhere else I've asked but this thread all seems to lean towards the old one which I'm currently using.

If I can add one more point, the old one looks better with the text, the new one looks better without. The placement of the character being parallel to the text is great in the original one, but I think it's just a little too much in the new one. Other than that, both of them are great really :3

I like the old one better too.
And here's why: Your character looks like he's up to no good! It's immediately interesting, and has me asking questions. If someone sees your icon and asks, what is that guy planning? You've won!
I do like the heavier outline around the text in the new icon. It makes the font stand out more.

I like the new one. the 3 characters tend to balance out the composition, but I do have one question: why did you cut off the top of the S at the beginning and end of "Settlers"? I like how the heavy stroke around the logo adds to it, but the cut off at the top of the S really gets me.

I decided to let it be cut off just to be able to move it closer to the edge but that can easily be ammended, thanks for pointing it out
