If you could get a comic artist to write back to you

I send fan mail sometimes to comic artists. I always have a little bit of hope they may respond back. But at the same time I understand they are really busy. For the record, I never do get a response.

My most recent one is Shen of Blue Chair (webtoon)

So i was wondering, who would you want to have write back to you that you are not sure they would?

One of our writers had a pretty regular correspondence with John Byrne for awhile. That was pretty cool.

I guess I would go George Perez or Mike Mignola.

I wouldn't mind sending fan art to Derrick Savage about the masterpiece that is Cool Cat Stops Bullying, but he seems like the kind of person who would take my art and try to make a profit off it...

Interesting. I knew this was a thing, but have never felt the want to communicate with anyone I thought wouldn't get back to me.

About the biggest creator I chitchat to regularly is Deya I think. Followed by Engiru and Ann. Or maybe the creator of Buffering Content is bigger than them. Her name escapes me.

Unless that's like, the exact subject we have here and I'm just misunderstanding.

Like, I have no interest to send a letter to the author of any huge graphic novels I read or anything like that.

This person wasn't a professional artist. They had a Geocities site way back in the days where they posted their fanart. I loved their work. Then one day, all of sudden, they took down their site, leaving behind a goodbye letter saying they decided to stop because they had no talent.

I never told them how much their work meant to me. I never let them know while I had the chance. If I could reach any creator, it would be them (I guess ex-creator now). Even if they never write back, even if they don't get back to drawing, I want them to know their work brought real joy to people like me, and to wish them well.

If I could get Eiichiro Oda(author of One Piece) to even glance at my comic, even if he thought it sucked I would be over the moon. I could call my life complete right there.

i think the largeat ive wanted to send fanart or fanmail to were probably ian flynn and yardley along with a few other names associated with the Sonic comics

theres also folks id interacted with back in my DA days who've blown up since then like Evan S, jonkagor and unknownspy but i doubt anybody would remeber a lil bugger like me but its still been cool watching from the sidelines or at least from my lane in the back

One of my favorite Sonic comic artists was Patrick Spaziante. One of the dudes who I traced constantly when I was a kid. He's how I learned how to draw hands.

yes! i love spaz! i admit i always tried to see if i could mimic his style but then i was also falling in love with a lot of styles of certain fan artists... which i could probably list all day

I have a huge fondness for the really old school artists like Dave Manak and Art Mawhinney. I literally remember buying the digest collections at grocery store checkouts when I was 12. I'm so old lol.

i never got the chance to nab the digest but i remeber my excitement when i got one of the super specials and the mobius encyclopedia but they really had some cool styles

Been there too, so I promised to myself to always reply to my fans. Well, as much as I can at least if it's about replying to comments (some just don't have any way to answer them).
When I reply on Webtoons the readers get so excited, like "AHHH SENPAI NOTICED ME!" it's adorable XD

I'm a big fan of 2BRO, they're Japanese youtubers that do game playthroughs. (Not comic artists I know, but I don't have any that I want to contact atm) I didn't send any emails yet, but I comment on their videos and on their Twitter posts and post fanart to the official hashtag. I never got a reply or a +like, but I hope that one day I can get a response.

I have some mutual friends with Shen! I think he lived with one of my comics pals for a while??? (If not still does???? Idk!!!) The world of comics is so small.

I can’t really think of anybody though. Maybe Kazuo Umezu since he seems super reachable but super old and I don’t know if I’ll ever get the chance to meet him before the inevitable
