This would be a little weird for me because I don't really want to give up my job - but if one year to not worry means at the end I can just walk back into my current job without anybody batting an eye...
I'd focus on habit-building. The one thing that just gets in the way of working on comics is just coming home too drained and working too inconsistently. I'd set a schedule and do my absolute best to keep that schedule. There would be an exercise schedule, blocks/days set aside for planning, writing, thumbing, lining, whatever. That way, when I do go back to work, I have less inertia in the evenings and weekends to just work on the dang things!
I'd also dedicate a lot of time to really optimizing my workflow and researching ergonomics to keep a healthy production pace. This would mean downtime where I'm unproductive just trying out new strategies and techniques, but payoff could be big.
