If you haven't started posting your comic (or novel, I guess 🙄)

Speaking to those who are at any stage of making their comic or novel, be it planning, pre-production, post-production or everything in between and beyond, but haven't started posting yet.

First question, if you haven't started yet, why not?

If you have started, how long before you begin posting?

If you're all done, when you start posting, what are your goals?

These can also be answered by anyone who has started posting, but is currently on a hiatus. But not a "I'm too busy to work on my comic right now" hiatus. I'm talking about the "I'm currently working on the next bunch of chapters and it's taking a while" hiatus.

Wh...what's with the eyeroll at novels ;;

When I post, I usually have a big buffer so I have leg room. If I run out, I tend to go on hiatus, touch up my outline and write until I have another big buffer.

I have a second long form comic in the works. However, I have 2 more chapters to go with Goblins of Razard, and I don't want to post the second comic until Goblins is wrapped up. It's also kind of a time commitment thing too. I can't keep up with the one comic that I have running, I know for sure I would irritate my follows getting super behind on two of them. But eventually it will come. When the time is right...

With my 'novel, I guess ' I'm somewhere between "too busy to work on it" and "currently working on the next bunch of chapters".
I'm normally working on more than one project anyway and stupid me somehow got to having 5-6 projects with a release schedule I know that that is way too much so I'm trying to finish them up one by one to free up some time again.
On the other hand, I have already planned the entirety of my next project and am slowly drafting the chapters. If I posted it, people would have expectations while as long as I'm silently preparing it I can go as fast or slow as I can fit into the rest of my schedule.

I guess I won't give out even details about the project until at least two or three of my other stories are finished (which will still take several months I guess) and even after that, I'm considering to take at least a short break before announcing and then posting it.
Other than the main goal of hoping that lots of people will read and enjoy it I am also trying (this might sound paradoxical ...) to use this project to gain myself a bit of time. My thought is basically that if I work like crazy now and prepare all the drafts, maybe even do a first clean-up of the chapters and a first revision, then by the time I get to posting it, I'll only need to edit and proofread which will take much less time. So I'll be able to ... work on another project already while I post that one and get myself a massive stockpile

I took a hiatus because I blew through my buffer. Instead of creating an easier style as I went along, I got more complex and painterly. I will learn speed or die!

I started posting but didn't have enough buffer so now I'm on hiatus trying to rebuild it while also juggling freelance work. I also may have overestimated my ability to manage three ongoing series but that's another story

Honestly, I don't post some things because the story is just... destined to die. I mentioned somewhere else on a thread about abandoning projects that have been started and shown to the public and almost argued that I never do that to my babies, but my track record has proof that I do. A lot. ;_;
Ending a story or resolving it's "central conflict" without making like 30 other tiny conflicts, is a thing that plagues me. It's one thing why the story "lingEr" that I have won't be posted on Tapas for likely a while, if ever. While I keep playing with the idea of it in my head, I keep scrapping and adjusting it around. I don't want to put up things I'm not satisfied with for people to just go "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa continue itttttt" and it's like 3+yrs dead.

I need to finish writing it before I post it (and make some art for it too) My comic is on hiatus and has had slow growth because I didn't plan a buffer before I began posting. Now I'm playing catch up and It's taking a long time. My upcoming short story only has a little over half of the writing done and I want to finish the first draft of the whole thing, at least. I can't wait til it comes out. I think a lot of people will like it, but I don't to miss updates this time around. I'll probably stat posting it in mid-fall later this year (No promises!).

I suddenly recalled this night's dream, where I decided to put the deadline of the break I'm in now on the twelfth of September

Thank you, I've been pretty lost these days because my laptop broke and now I'm trying to get back on a schedule

Feedback makes me want to do every new page a bit better than the previous, so by now I haven't had the patience to complete a chapter before start posting it

I end up doing pages at the rythm I post.

I'm clearly on big need of learn to work faster without loosing quality

I’m planning a second, short story, comic. But aside of character designs and outlines I haven’t really dived into the meat yet.
Why, because I’m always too mentally exhausted in the evening to work on my script
My main comic with its book released is my priority. I hope once the book is out of the way Incan dedicate my weekends toward the new side project. No point in stressing yourself out if you can help it

I'm still sketching the first episode (currently on p 12) ,but I can't upload anything yet till I get a new laptop xD hopefully before the end of this month ;u;
