I've thought about it and I actually have... three characters had in mind should I ever take that route. That would be:

D or Nancy:

I feel D is a no-brainer. A chunibyo as a main protagonist in a stick figure universe where anime characters resurrect is like the perfect setup. I feel like I would've totally started off the series with him if things played out differently. Would love to explore a spin-off series with him though.

Nancy on the other hand, I feel like she would be a wildcard pick. She obviously knows more about the world and everything going on. It'd be great to see her be this cynic and slowly grow to be more optimistic.

But I feel like Nikado would be my first choice:

I remember watching Fist of the North Star and they killed this character and they were like "Oh hey, meet this similar character c:". It'd be funny if I explored that trope (THEY DID IT IN DEATH NOTE, although I'd argue they did it more creative there). Especially him finding himself and becoming more of an individual.

What about you guys?

Hmmm. Hard to choose since Olivia is the main reason for having a positive influence on the people around her.
And my second protag (which has yet to be revealed) wouldn't be a good fit since he is more the opposite of her character-wise.
But I would think Juliet would step in her footsteps since her death would give her a character arc to try to become like her, helping others.

Without my protagonist I don't have a story. It's his story.

same here! even here without my protragonist story wont be complete

Same here too! The goal of my current novel is literally to keep him alive and working.

Honestly, either Fleet or Amalia. They're already the leaders of the rebel organization, "The Vectors". My protag is late to the party. It'll be harder to win without him tho, since the manpower is lacking, but it's still possible.

In Rise of the Heroes? Andrew's brother Jason would take up the mantle as mc and continue looking for their father

In Square One? Nah if Danivere dies then the story ends

I'm not sure if I understand this...

When you ask "if', do you imply that such an event will randomly occur on its own and then you have to react to it?

As the writer of the story would you not have to plan/plot that occurrence before hand?
