Okay so I'm in the mood to give some reviews back to you all but at the same time I'm too lazy to read up comics/novels today (sorry not sorry ).
And I thought: "Well why can't I review character designs instead? Designing how a character looks is not one of my weakest points. "

So here we are with a new thread. And it work this way:

  • Feel free to drop your character here and feel free to drop as many as you want! I'll try to give my thoughts on all of them.
  • You can ask for honest feedback :smiling_imp: or feedback with the cloak of love  since it is almost christmas after all.

These are all finalized designs and I'm not looking to change them (they do change through the comic though.)

I want to know what you think, you can be honest if you want :0 (also the original lineup pic is too big on it's own so I have to split it up.)

The main four characters, left to right: Deja Vu, Demona Iglesias, Quail Weathervane, Albie Weathervane

Important reoccurring support cast: Belle Vu, Koji Kanamori, Jina Voyent, Beatrice Trey

(If any coloring is off at all, sorry, my monitor is funky and my phone is no better ;~; )

Alright the honest feedback it is :smiling_imp: (jk, I'm not that ruthless xd)
Let's see...

The first thing I noticed is that your cast is very varied in a good way. I can distinguish your characters from each other with a single glance. The only real thing I have to add here is that a lot of the characters seem to have the same "medium long slightly curly hairstyle except with a different colour and small variety here and there."
And that makes sense for Quail Weathervane and Albie Weathervane since they are siblings judging by their shared last name.
But then they (in my opinion) also share similar hairstyles with Demona, Koji, Jina and Beatrice. Or atleast their hairstyles aren't super distinguishable in my opinion, the only notable difference being a few details and the colour. Which could be a problem if you were ever to make a b&w page perhaps.
I actually had to look twice because for a split second Quail and Beatrice looked rather similar to me, both sporting brown hair, pink/purple-ish clothes and white skin.

I think that's pretty much it .

To explain a few things:

I do use a lot of shorthand for hair as the style translation from traditional to ms paint can become a chore for shaggy hair, Jina's hair being the most frustrating to get down. Overtime the curled flip hair has just become a thing for me to do thats faster. (I used to have a lot more fun with that with my traditional comic ;o; but it was very time consuming.)

And yeah, some characters do have similar hair styles. Demona's bangs style although matches Koji's a bit with the front wedge, is actually her imitating another character's hair (that is picture in the lineup but his hair's actual style is different than depicted here.)

I do notice yeah that Quail and Beatrice look similar in color scheme, but Quail's hair is red, while Beatrice's is brown. At quick glance Beatrice's is still a lot more reddish in color than Demona's brown. (Beatrice's color palette was actually also taken from another character's and inverted for more thematic reasons.)

I wish I had all the refs for everyone's dream world designs because that's mostly the biggest catch for a lot of them. I'm not gonna make you review those though if you don't want to.

Thank you for the feedback, it was really insightful and I'm gonna keep this in mind!!!

Here's the main characters from Arbiter's Wake. Thanks in advance for any feed back given. It's highly appreciated and good to see an outside perspective.

These are uploaded in no particular order.

Adaron:

Keyary (Main female protagonist):

Govodawn: (Main Villain):

Puff:

Alaise:

Lark (Main male protagonist.)

Thanni:

Keyary ( again.):

Alrighty, let's see...

My first thought is that all your characters have distinctive silhouettes. I could turn the images black and white and still tell who is who! Nice :+1:

I also think your colour choices are rather solid, they don't clash in the character's design and palette for me and that's a good thing. Only thing I noticed is that I feel Adaron and Govodawn have this same vibe due to the skull/bone theme going on and both of them having that dark colour and green going on in their palette. I don't know if that was intentional but I noticed that.

Thank you! And as far as the feet go. I think maybe I need to find a better green for Govodawn as he's supposed to be a necromancer, where as Adaron is a druid wood elf and is supposed to have more "nature" like colors.

This sounds like fun  I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I have a lot more characters but so far we've only had the chance to finalize these guys  have fun! 🤣🤣 If you want to roast them, I am fine with that too lol.

Alrighty let's go

So first off looking at your cast they all have a design that sets them apart from each other, especially the female characters. And while the male characters do all have short hair (and thus a similar silhouette) they either have a notable height difference or in the case of Roy and Angel, a different colour palette that really tells them apart. Well done!

The only thing I can't really place is what kind of story they are in, since their designs (especially clothing) really differs in my opinion, but that doesn't take away that your designs are solid in my opinion :+1:

I agree that Roy and Angel have pretty simplistic similarities 🤣 I always knew that was the case but it was more obvious when I still was illustrating them. Getting a talented artist to help me definitely set them apart  although I wish I could show you the other characters so that you know that their hairstyles all are NOT that similar 🤣🤣 it's just a coincidence that we did these guys first. I do plan to share all the illustrations once they're done anyways.

As for the type of story, it's tilted Individuality, so perhaps the clothing makes a bit more sense since they are all supposed to come off as very unique  as for the setting, they are just teenagers in a school for superhumans. Pretty basic sounding but I promise there is a unique spin to it 🤣

Alrighty there's a lot to review to I'll briefly speak my mind about them

@Inspector_Spinda your cast is very diverse and I like how you can tell who is who just by their body shapes and hair. I must also praise you for really having their faces stand out from each other.

@O-1-D in terms of colour your cast looks good and none of their colours conflict with each other in their designs. I do think aside from Dr. Browner and Fife their faces look the same, they have the same muzzle size and their eyes are very similar too so they suffer from same face syndrome a little bit in my opinion

@Tanidreams for a character cast based on mushrooms I must say you did a great job. I especially like Sniffles xd
I do think the purple on Tufts is a little hard to see next to the dark green but that may just be me

@R.n.P I like how your main character isn't a cute anime/manga protagonist and has some more realistic features, also I like his hairstyle

@Schwarze_Neko I also like her hairstyle (though that may just be me because I like short haired girls )
Also the wrappings around her arms are a nice touch

Thank you for the compliments on the character
would it be too much to also ask for honest feedback as well please, so if there's something i can improve on i can do it later on down the road( i basically wanted to hear good news first, that's why i asked for feedback with love first, hope its not a problem for you)
