If you are having trouble, you can look for inspiration on writespo blogs, or writing advice essays on YouTube. You can find lists of writing prompts, first lines etc. online. Here's an example from my writespo blog. You can find lots of pages, blogs and sites dedicated to helping beat creative fatigue!

Everyone has slumps sometimes, you just have to jump start your brain with a challenge.

Alternately you could try writing something you haven't tried before, like a scene in a genre you don't normally write or a form you don't normally write. If you don't usually write poetry sometimes jotting down a few haikus can get your brain into writing mode.

I call these periods delusional buffer periods, where while im working on buffers I write things down on notes and hope future me can read theough my crazed lack of sleep to understand what my ideas were even about.

Maybe it's time for a break? If school is taking up a lot of thought space, it's okay to spend some time being mush and just recovering. You might find some ideas pop up when you let your mind rest.

Otherwise some stuff I do when I'm just trying to get my creative mojo flowing are things like thinking about my own version of fairy tales (it's easier to think about because there's already a framework there), or sometimes I think about pulling ideas from media I like, don't like, whatever I can think of. I will also retread old stories and reuse the same premise. This is all stuff I just do in my head, not necessarily for any creative projects.

Something else you can try are writing prompts! Especially super random ones. Do some low pressure for fun writing.

But overall, just don't be afraid to take a break! If you have an ongoing project, take a week or two off. If you have a lot going on in school, let that be your focus for a bit.

Dry spots are the way your mind tells you that you need some rest. If you're stressed, exhausted, anxious and never disconnect... your mind won't work

Disconnect for some time (if not a day, at least some hours), meditate (that means lay in a comfortable place and follow the line of your thoughts to see where they go), take a notebook and write your thoughts and feelings down (that will make meditating easier), sleep a bit, just be with yourself. You need to re-connect with your inner self

Hope I helped a bit

This happens with my novel a lot. I had written a lot of it three years back, but I feel like I've improved and sort of strayed a bit from my original story. Sometimes I struggle with how I want to fill some holes and which parts of the original story I still want to include/ how I'm going to get to those points.
Then other days I'm feeling all inspired and can whip out a chapter or three and feel proud of what I've done.
It's ever fluctuating...

Right?! Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever know how to truly bring it to its end! Haha

I'm hearing a lot of people saying to take a break on here, lol. You guys are probably on to something. Still, I feel like I need to get something done. I can't even read a book bc my mind starts wandering (never happened to me in the past)

I've been there for the last year basically. I don't know if it's because I've been going through stuff or I'm just not creative anymore but it sucks.

Yeah, and on top of that it feels like whenever you get halfway into the book itself you're like, "how am I supposed to end this?"
That's mostly when writing without an outline written and I never write outlines.

Have you tried some short stories? The fun of reading, but its more forgiving on ones attention span.

That’s exactly where I’m at too. The middle of my book and filling a huge hole. I’m glad I have an end in mind but I’ve got to figure out how to wrap up this filler. But you’re definitely not alone in this.

Honestly, I haven't. I wouldn't even know where to start on a short story.
Although it might be something worth looking into.

Thank god for reliability lol. Maybe I should just go outside and live for once, that might help.

It was not on purpose, when I entered in your post (as I think all those before me) you didn't have any response. In the time it took me to answer, they did it before (I take it with calm, dude :joy:)

Your mind is claiming for rest, listen!!

Definitely give yourself some you time! I get a lot of inspiration out of driving and listening to song lyrics sometimes. I’ve come up with scenes that way.
