i’m finally in a spot where i have lots of time to think about what i wanna do for inksgiving and i was thinking about making a mini comic that could be unlocked after a certain ink goal—probably 50/100k for a 2 page slice of life story.
inksgiving was very kind to me last year and the inksgiving in may was nearly double the support (around 60k if my ink math is to be trusted) and that was with no special incentives. i wanna give back with something fun this year for sure. i love this event, it really helps out free creators!
Ah it's my first Inksgiving as well and I had a few questions!
- Would a goal of 5K ink be too much for my series (https://tapas.io/series/Shackles4 )? And would people like it if I unlocked an extra episode if I reach 5K?
- How do you guys advertise Inksgiving and your goals? When is the best time to mention it to subscribers?
- I added a support banner on my Support page but I don't see it on my episodes. Does this only appear during Inksgiving?
Thank you and can't wait for Inksgiving!
- I think 5k is a good goal but I'd probably set another goal below it. Maybe at 2k or so. It could inspire people to donate more when there's some smaller goals to reach in between. And then there'd be some sense of accomplishment of reaching the smaller goal if it happened that you didn't reach the main goal.
Do you mean early update of next chapter with extra episode or more like a special story? I think both can work. I'd personally go for latter myself for "the big goal" but for you it of course depends on what you want to do and how much extra time you have. - I put a post on my wall and an extra update episode to let people know Inksgiving is coming. When it's closer, I'll put a reminder with all the tiers and rewards probably to an end of an episode. And then probanly announce on my wall on the Inksgivibg day that it's started.
- I haven't used a banner so I don't know about that, sorry. But have you checked the sidebars of your episode page? Maybe it's there
I decided to fiddle around with my goals more >.< But I think I'm set now. Someone hold me back if I try to change them again.
Current plan:
1k ink: Alone in the Night Pinterest board
2k ink: Baby, I Love You Pinterest board
5k ink: extra story
9k ink: extra story + character sheets
18k ink: spicy/nsfw original story (so not based on my current novels)
So guys, I'm kind of split between doing mini comics for DRAGOONS for Inksgiving, or doing an Inksgiving Q & A where I'd answer the questions of the people who donate ink. (They'd have to put their question in their donation message if that makes sense.)
What do you guys think I should do? (Maybe I might do both or something...)
Is it ok to do two goal lists? Like my main goal list I have aimed for my main novel, but I was just seeing that one of my other stories I'm slowly working on has a fair amount of subs already.. I'm not too sure of a reward for that story. I don't want to give out teh releases any faster, so maybe I can make a reward specific for maybe a Christmas/Winter short story for it - the other story, not the main one??
So I'd have two lists:
One for the main story that's already set up and finishes at 15,000 and then one list for the other story that is maybe just one tier and finishes at .... 20k? I don't want it to be too high, but I also don't want it to be something that'd interfere with the main story's tiers...
@nostalgicroxas
@amberberry two list?
How will you do that on the support-page?
I still dont know what to do with the rewards. I was hoping people commenting on what they want me to draw, but... ithere are not much of a reply. Maybe i dont explained myself or i dont have enough followers....
Im thinking on changing for Q&A, a longer update, or a minicomic... what othee things i can do?
Its my first inskgiving and im a bit confused
@amberberry love the Pinterest boards idea!
I am thinking about making some art for the ink goals like the characters as Pokémon trainers for goal 1, maybe something fantasy like D&D for the second goal, but I still not sure about how many goals should be and how many ink each of them should cost
Well you can always do what I do or did.
I include the Ink in my storytelling
My first Inksgiving had an Alien invasion
Blue could not enter the theme park without Ink
and much other random fun. But it is also a kind of unique thing for Blue Life to do
I like to offer other rewards. I'm doing bits of lore- short quick comics of things that otherwise wouldn't be explained. I'm also offering a bonus lore comic if we get to a certain amount. Also, you can make wallpapers people can download (pattern is great for this as you can make a public post with them), offer a raffle for a full sized drawing char of their choice, even say people who donate a certain amount can guest star in the comic!
This will be my first year participating! Well, providing that I get accepted for early support. Sent the e-mail, so fingers crossed.
I don't have a strong follower base, so I'm trying to think of different ways to participate... Small things that I can do now to practice Inksgiving, so that I can make a more serious attempt once I'm more established. So I might set goals for reaching the stiewide 10%, 15%, and 20% milestones instead of for supporting me in particular.
Thinking right now that I might have my comic characters 'promote' what Tapas.io novel/comic is their favorite. Might be fun to go through the ones I like and promote other peoples' works. Problem will be asking permission. cuz I'm shy.
Here's my announcement via my website: https://iamamonkey.com/inksgiving-2019/1
And a special episode:
