Inspiration for Art or Parade for the Elite? Met Ball 2026

So, I've been watching the Met Ball coverage of the iconic outfits. I'm trying to see if I'm inspired by them. Honestly, I'm trying to see how each artist/celeb interpreted the theme of "Fashion is Art". Some brought a painting to life like Madonna. Heidi Klum dressed up as a statue, and you couldn't even tell it was her. Others dressed elaborate, with Beyonce as a Skeleton Dress. I'm trying to figure which painting she may be. But I have thought a lot about Bad Bunny dressing old. He had a make-up artist age him, and he showed off his aged look, as an older man...as fashion. That was a nice take on aging.

But what do you all think? Is the Met Ball inspirational? Has it gone too over the top for a fundraiser? Let me know your thoughts. I am curious.

I'm going to add, that I just found out someone I know went to the Met Ball this year. I'm kinda excited for him. He just posted a picture of himself on the red carpet, and I know he knows a Maharaja. He's a fashion icon and inspirational guy. He's been on the TV show, Pawn Stars, since he is an expert on Egyptology. Not surprised he was invited. He is the BEST to hang out with.

I didn't even know it was a fundraiser. The point is clearly to be a who's who for our current celebrities. I've never been the sort to track that, and I've never had a finger to the pulse of high society.

I hadn't paid any attention to the outfits, but I looked some up. They seem less tasteless than usual, at a cursorial glance. I appreciate that some of the men are doing unusual things, it would be good for the world if we could get some more unusual men's fashion around.

Thanks for responding. Yeah, I think Doc had a great time. I met him through the steampunk community on the West Coast. He used to run a con before the pandemic that was fabulous. He's so down to earth and has amazing stories. I literally was visiting him in Vegas with a friend, and we went to a steampunk bar to hang out. Of course, a requirement was to dress steampunk too. We had so much fun. He's so open and a great conversationalist. I literally hope to meet up again to hear his stories first hand. He was just recently on the front of Italian Men's magazine. He's posted all of this on his socials.

The Met Gala has been a fundraiser to support the costume department (basically fashion history) of the Met since the 1950s. It got taken over as a celebrity affaire in the 90s. The money still goes to support that part of the museum though. That's why there is such a fashion icon tie-in with the event.

Including a picture of Doc at the event. He looks fabulous! Just feeling a little jealous, but he definitely deserves to be there. I usually tell him I want to be him when I grow up. Can you believe he's 78?

I actually had no idea Met Gala is a fundraiser either.
I don't follow Met Gala (or any celebrities) closely or anything, but I enjoy looking at the costumes when I stumble upon them every year. While this year's theme was nice I don't think I liked many looks, to be honest?
Emma Chamberlain, Anok Yai, Louisa Jacobson, Grace Ling and Lisa were probably my favorites. And also your friend for sure! Absolutely gorgeous.
Overall yeah, I say it's pretty inspirational. It is still a parade for elite, I think it's no doubt in that. Still, it's a fashion show that's interesting to look at and the cause is a good one.
