He recently reposted chapter one (very very first chapter) in his new art style. I thought it was just for fun but he left an author's note suggesting to buy volume 1 and the second one to compare. If there's gonna be a volume does he mean he's actually going through with this? His new version looks good and everything but, some of the most iconic scenes later in the comic I'm completely fine with how they are, in fact I love them that way. I'm sure every time artist feels the need to redraw his/her old art (me included) but that's about 143 chapters. And he's got Tokyo Ghoul:re. I wonder how he's gonna manage it.
I love the original Tokyo Ghoul, even if Ishida's art style was a little different from typical manga (that's not even a problem), I think the art really reflected the mood of the story, even the parts where "Rize looked like a pig" (quote from Ishida) or whatever Ishida feels unsatisfied with. Even if the new version may look better in some parts, I think it's really fun to sit down and see how your art has evolved, and his art style definitely improves by the last chapter.
I both look foreword to the new version (curiosity) and wonder what Ishida is thinking. Don't push yourself too hard, we love your work!
Seriously tho, "1000-7" and the other counting scene are the best just the way they are. I love those two scenes 😎
Thoughts anyone? For new readers, I really suggest reading this manga, all the way through Tokyo Ghoul:re (the second season) and maybe watching the anime if you feel like it.
