I have only recently started on Tapas and I'm wondering if it's normal that creators ask for you to subscribe or like and comment since it's done everywhere else, like on ytb or other writing platforms?

i've never done it in my stories themselves before, I suppose you could, but it might make people feel like they're being pulled out of the story

Yup, I was thinking that but I saw it in like 2 stories and thought that maybe it was a thing here as well

It's pretty normal in all the webcomic/novel sites. In a way, sites like Tapas are very much like Youtube, where the point is to grow your audience, so it's not uncommon to remind readers to support creators. Usually it's posted int the Description section at the end of the chapter so it doesn't cut into the story and people don't really seem to mind. You can also link to other sites like your patreon or social media.

I wouldn't say it's not normal. On YouTube, it's certainly proven to literally give you an advantage, even at the cost of your audience's annoyance. (Though, to be fair, if you really like a creator, you don't really mind them saying like and subscribed, since it's often quick if they do it right.)

This isn't YouTube though. You're not really fighting against other people for the algorithm. It won't do much for you here as much as it would on YouTube. But it'd still do 'something'. How much that is and if it's worth it is up to you.

Personalllly. I just avoid it on this platform. People knows how to like and subscribe. On YouTube, audience may forget, and they actually do it when the creator request it because the audience knows that truly does help the creator out that they've been enjoying the content from.

On here though, yeah, it's different. But I don't see much harm in it. Depends on where and how often, most readers aren't going to mind it and blankly scroll pass it. If someone wants to see more of the story, they will subscribed, which does 'do something', they'd get update when you update your story. I'm not sure what a like is worth on this platform.

When you look at the community tab, it just shows the numbers the stories been viewed. On this platform, I don't feel like creators are really 'fighting' against others for the limited attention of readers. On YouTube though, it's certainly like that, most creators are competing with others that are making similar quality content, and there's only so much limited views to go around. On here, unless you're like churning out romance novels to compete with other romance novels constantly, it's certainly not the same.

They do it on Youtube, so it's perfectly fine. I personally put a little custom banner at the end of each episode:

I don't expect anyone to follow it though it's more of a flavor thing, "JOIN THE ORDER!"
I'm just glad that I've retained a handful of readers.
