Is it okay to leave a comic uncolored?

I'm not coloring my comic cause i don't have the time (Not even for black and white just...lineart)
So is it okay to leave only the lineart in your opinion?

We constantly see writers looking for artist to work for free but like maybe they don't know any better because they're not artist themselves. You're an artist though, you know how much time and effort goes into colouring (and the comic making process in general) and you know how important is it for artist to get payed, it's something we've been trying to push in this community.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything and I don't know your situation, I just hate seeing so many people trying to get artist to work for free, it's incredibly unfair they're probably students like you or freelancers who have to pay the bills. Free work is never something that helps the artist in the long run even if they do it for practice.

seconding @Pandastrophic . i feel for your situation, OP, but working in the arts im increasingly turned off by unpaid labour. we need to get into a habit of compensating people for their time - if we know our own and eachothers worth, exploitation is less likely to find footing.

this would be different if you were asking a hand from a personal friend, but asking this of strangers isnt really fair. if theres no deadline on this project, why cant you continue to flat it yourself on the side? if you really cant afford the time it takes to colour, just release it in black and white - dont expect unreasonable labour from yourself either.

Black and white art is fine, but in my opinion is must show depth to look good without color. I've seen black and white comics with the same line weight and no shading that just looks like, well, lineart. It looks unfinished.
So if you're trying to pass off the lineart stage as a finished product, I recommend adding some shading at least or hard shadows. And maybe greyscale shading if you want to spend a little more effort

Most of my readers don't mind that my comic is in black and white with colour very slowly happening as I get help with it because arthritis sucks and I had to stop colouring to minimize the pain involved in creating pages

Some of them prefer the black and white pages.

I still get readers despite most of it not being in colour (only about 30 pages of 1600 are in colour so far) Just make sure that it's still easy to read, as reading ques that are usually there for colour are not going to be there for b&w, so you just have to make sure you make up for that.

Black and white is fine, but one of the most important elements to making a black and white comic is making sure it's compelling and that the style matches the lack of color. Color is generally more immediately eye catching and therefore easier to hook subscribers with, but it's definitely not necessary. Some of ours are in black and white.

B&W should be fine, but I'm seconding @dawgofdawgness , if it's going to be just linework, do be sure to make it compelling linework :] Line weight is super important, and like @Hodge suggested, even experimenting with some hatching to add some shading while still being technically just linework may be something to explore.

Why do you even ask?
Most of the Japanese manga is uncolored, for example and it's still more than ok

for a great deal of comics, id agree. it seems every day i see a black and white comic that i pass on bc it needs shading.

however, if you look on @Clauxx 's instagram you can see some snapshots of their work - OP, your work has really great inking and shading, and if you posted it as it is it would look perfectly finished to anyone eyes. i think you should go ahead and post it - i really wanna see the whole thing! the longer you leave it, the less likely you are to ever post it, and thatd be a massive shame.

Cause the black inked ones are...not so good if scanned, so i was going for the lineart version xD

in webcomics right now, theres this push for everything to be all clean and shiny and perfect. but like you, ive been making work traditionally and with time limit for college that physically cannot meet that ideal - and in that time, ive also been looking into more underground print comics and zines, and those areas really embrace 'ugly' (ie intuitive, but also ugly. by God, some of them are ugly. its great) when youre so used to the gleam of photoshop, scanned-in traditional work is bound to look a bit lack luster, but i think thats a bias we just need to break down and embrace that unpolished life.

is it possible to instead digitally edit them in just black and white to be more understandable?

i think theres a point when you have to just say 'fuck it' and declare a thing finished, warts and all - dont be afraid of coming to that point

I don't think the sunswallower would look near as cool in color.
