Is Omegaverse a dirty word now?

aside from the usually garbage-tier writing quality that seems to plague the genre.

most if the "cringe omegaverse" discourse I see is a reaction to bad writing, not the genre.

What is good about the genre? What can also be bad about the genre (personally I am not a big fan of non-con or dub-con for pretty obvious reasons)?

I personally try not to judge too harshly when I see omegaverse novels with questionable themes. I think most non-con and dub-con is written by women who like to feel desired. At the end of the day, it is a fantasy and does not reflect what an author thinks is appropriate behavior in real life.

That being said, my own omegaverse story was directly inspired by a desire to see some of those more "problematic" themes addressed. "Nonconforming" is my love letter to the omegaverse: a story I think most omegaverse fans will enjoy, but also one that stays true to my personal values and beliefs about healthy relationships.

while I have no doubt that the concept could (and probably has been) used well, every single time I've encountered it, it's just used as a transparently lazy excuse to have the characters fugg because 'pheromones' and 'heat' and 'primal instinct' or whatever rather than, y'know, actual meaningful character motivations or good relationship writing.
I'm sure there's interesting things to be done with it, both sexual and non-sexual, but I have yet to encounter it, personally, and the concept can very easily become a crutch for a writer to make sexytimes happen because horni, and not because it actually serves the story, if you aren't careful about it.

You say you have yet to encounter it, but did you browse any of the stories the creators above posted? I haven't been able to read all of them, but a couple of them, I know are very well done.
