Theoretically that could happen with any site/service.
So you're most likely as safe with paypal as you are with anything else.

I'm another person wondering about Paypal and commissions.
I know I'm 100 years too early with my skill to even think about it, but eventually I'd like to make money with commissions, and seems like Paypal is most commonly used for that - but I have a major gripe with it: I really, really don't want to reveal my legal name and location (PayPal.me does reveal your name and location too, from what I know.)

Afaik using a business account is the only way to avoid this, but I've heard too many stories of business accounts not linked to actual registered real-life businesses being blocked/terminated without notice (so what @borzoiteeth mentioned, pretty much.) What to do, then?

You could offer commissions through Gumroad. They don't reveal your real name when a customer purchases from you.

I also remember that I heard that you have to pay fees or something like that. I'm not sure if PayPal makes you pay a fee or not.

Well, all third party services will require a fee and take from whatever you charge your customer. I don't know if there are any services that don't have processing fees.

Paypal is fine for just depositing to your bank account from paypal balance, but the process of being able to just use your balance to shop online is a bumpy road now. If you are in the US. In the US they now want, SSN Card (Picture), Government License (Driver's License, Military Issue Card, or other Gov ID.), And also a proof of residence. Then they also have to review all of your info which takes a couple days. But, that's only if you need to use your balance, and making new accounts won't work either. The government has now forced them to do this. It's really, really dumb.

I'm not going to use my new account & PayPal account to shop. I want to use PayPal for my Patreon and Ko-fi accounts so whenever I get paid, the money will go to the new account.
