Is praising characters because they have super powers a overrated thing?

Like so many people love Naruto or Midoriya Deku for displaying all these amazing powers and stuff but what about characters like Julie Yamamoto from Ben 10, Kim Possible, Batman, Harley Quinn, Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin or even Subaru from the anime Re: Zero, all these characters are awesome and they don't have any powers.

When you look at a beautiful, brave and even talented character, the thought that might arise in your mind is that this character is magnificent even if they have no powers. So would you say a character does not need powers to be amazing, in fact characters that don't have powers can be just as amazing as characters that do have powers?

No, I would not say that praising powerful, talented and attractive people is overrated. It's all about what makes such thing overrated.

Journey to The West is a really great example of an "overrated" main character named wong Kong who is praised by his fellow comrades time and time again. However, these interactions aren't done because of the sake of complimenting someone, it's to convey that someone should be proud of their ability but not let it fuel their ego. It's a balancing act that he should maintain for the rest of his life.

The crazy thing is, this story was retold more times than any folk tale I've seen. Akira Toriyama took that story and made Dragon Ball.

So, something that is overrated today is something to retell in the future.

Implying that Batman is a character that doesn't get enough is hilarious in its entirety. I wouldn't be surprised if most people's favorite DC character is Batman.

I don't think the premise of your question holds any water. Superhero content being popular doesn't mean that non-powered characters aren't getting praise.

No I wasn't saying beautiful, brave and talented characters being praised is overrated, I was saying characters displaying super powers are overrated. If a character is brave and talented, that is enough to make you admire them even if they don't have any powers. (That's what I was saying)

I agree that there are characters without powers who are equally amazing, but I think people already acknowledge that characters without powers are equally amazing. Batman is widely considered one of the best superheroes, especially because he does all that he does without powers

It's not the powers or the praise but the character and how they make us feel that people are really praising. There are plenty of comic characters that are stronger than Superman or Goku, but many people connect with both of their archetypal stories.

What made Deku or Naruto great (they're very similar characters) was how they had to struggle gain respect, earn friendships, and overcome dangerous opponents. Nobody is praising them for the powers themselves.

There are many characters who aren't powerful, or whose strengths don't translate to combat. I generally find more "underpowered" characters to be more interesting, since they have to struggle and outwit their opponents.

I appreciate the human behind the power whether that’s someone extremely kind like Superman or someone more complex like the Winter Soldier. Good or bad I want see how they utilize their power and how they emotional cope with that weight.
