Hopefully, you can see now my comments were not harsh. When you ask “What’s wrong” you have to expect negative answers.
Harsh is “You’re a hack!” Instead, like the others here who gave very thoughtful critiques, you were presented with the issues and solutions (or implied solutions).
I never implied that morally questionable characters do not make good protagonists. @L4213
My first statement about your characters was:
There is no qualifier about the type of characters.
All of my comments are in the context of talking about your characters and your writing.
I’m a big fan of Breaking Bad, GOT and Dexter. Your writing does not begin to approach that depth of characterization or motivation.
I even co-created a character that appears to have no redeeming values http://tapastic.com/series/Grace-Fallen-Angel
In a perfect world, everyone would start with your first page. However, just like in a comic book store, the creator no longer controls how it is read. Looking at my own comics - the views show people have started in the middle, at the end and everywhere in between.
Observation 1: Looking at what you have posted in this forum, practically all of them have been motivated purely by self-interest as in; questions abut your comic or promoting it. I echo that you do need to participate more, however. in a more selfless way.
Observation 2: Your avatar is of you drawing yourself.
Observation 3: When asking for a critique, you should resist the impulse to defend your point of view. Thinking other people will all see how you intended things is something you can’t control. (aside: I thought it was a dragon when I first saw it. They were right to ask you to change it. Your storytelling must communicate clearly.)
I checked your Deviant Art page. You are a very talented artist. If you bring your writing up that talent level, you would have a dynamite strip.
