I guess kind of? I write fantasy/BL. Online, I prefer to read fantasy and/or BL. I'm a big Chinese webnovel fan for the numerous offerings that include both the genre has.
With traditionally published books, I read a lot more literary fiction, along with classic and modern fantasy. Right now, I'm reading The Brothers K by David James Duncan, which I love but am moving through so slowly it just got stolen back by the library, and I can't check it out again until the 12 people who had it on hold read it, and I really think a metro area of 2.5 million people ought to have more than one copy of this book in its library system? It's not like it's a particularly niche read.
Anyway. I also love Dostoevsky, Gogol, Dickens, Flannery O'Connor, Kelly Link, George Saunders, Lu Xun, Maggie O'Farrell. I've been reading a lot of non-fiction lately and really like Barbara Tuchman; I'm enjoying Dan Jones' books on the Plantagenets. Erik Larson is a really amazing history writer; I will be drawn into any story he's telling, even about topics I was not previously interested in. Oh, also, I'm obsessed with the papacy and recently read Conclave by Robert Harris so I could be ready to go see the movie the second it comes out. I really enjoyed it right up to the end, where I got some weird feelings about Harris's irl politics I have not made any attempts to confirm via google cause I still want to see the movie. I loved The Triumph of Christianity (it's probably not what you're imagining) by Bart Ehrman and Absolute Monarchs: A History of the Papacy by John Julius Norwich.
Anyway, I could go on forever and already have gone longer than I ought to have; here's my book about dead animals, the tyranny of the rich, and being gay:
