Is your comic a "Space Opera"?

My comic is a sci-fi action comedy that appears to be a send-up of the traditional space-hero, but as the story progresses, we're really planning on building a universe with large scope and galactic consequences.

I'm also publishing a space opera. Mine's sort of a genre blend with mystery/horror as well, and it tells the story of the last bastion of human society seeking out answers in a new home. Its central theme and question is whether or not mankind is capable of changing, capable of breaking its unquenchable hunger for power and control at all costs before it becomes extinct.

The cover looks amazing! The smiley planets gave me a smile too :3 you did amazing job on all those sky coloring and stars.

So how would folks define the term "Space Opera"? It's used a lot, generally in comparison to Star Wars. What makes a story a "Space Opera" in your opinion?

For me, I feel like it has to be "Big"... scale is important for it to be "operatic", and the build-up has to be big as well.
In Zip Kramer - Saviour of the Cosmos, we want the stakes to be HUGE eventually (As we see by the title).

Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes space warfare and melodramatic adventure, and often risk-taking as well as chivalric romance. Set mainly or entirely in outer space; it usually involves conflict between opponents possessing advanced abilities, futuristic weapons and other sophisticated technology.
