It Is Never Too Late to Pursue Art

Not one who is good at titles but I suppose an introduction is in order. I am sure some of you may have seen me spamming my comic around here once in awhile but I never really formally introduced myself.

About Me:
I have always liked to draw since I was a child but I never took it took seriously until 2010 (age 30) when I got super inspired to draw my roleplay (RP) characters and got this crazy idea to turn our(me and a few friends I met online through Guild Wars) RP story into a comic.

By day, I am a computer professional specializing with Programming/Software Development. I wanted to take a career in art but didnt for financial reasons. I am happy with my decision now that I know that it is entirely possible to self study art. I am also a mom to a wonderful 3 year old girl and a wife. So my life is pretty hectic but in a good way

My Comic

My comic is titled Eon and as I mentioned, it is based on roleplays with my friends starting from around 2005. It is a long saga and the story continues to this day but we divided the story into "chapters/books" that can all make sense as a stand-alone tale.

Genre-wise , it is your run of the mill fantasy with magic, violence, drama and action. Vampires, shifters (race who can shift to animal forms) aside from humans with various talents and abilities will make their appearance. Later on you will get to see various creatures that I haven't even conceptualized yet lol. Character development is the main focus of the story. And with more than a decade of roleplaying, these characters will be in for a roller coaster ride and I would love to take you guys and join us in their journey Good and bad is a gray area especially as the story progresses. Anyone can be the good or bad guy/gal depending on one's perspective.

I grew up drawing, thinking I wanted become a professional animator. Then I didn't. And stopped drawing for what I thought would be forever.
Five years later I started again. Five years wasted but I"m glad I started again. It's never too late! (:

lol it's funny isn't it how we just came back to drawing after years. I stopped drawing from 2003 to 2009. I moved to the US and lots of new stuff came up so drawing just took a backseat and I even forgot gaming.

What's your profession now if you dont mind me asking? I chose Computer Science thinking that I would be developing video games. I figured that's the closest I can be to art with my chosen major. lol, I was kidding myself XD

You are so right about this. I totally get you, I felt too old to be making comics ( at 30). Is not that I have "wasted" my time all these years. I had been through a lot, worked hard to have food on my table, a roof over my head and to pay medical treatment. I'm a designer, Have a full-time job and I'm starting a business that required me to develop skills sculpting and painting. And I totally neglected drawing. It was so intimidating to show my comic because there are younger people that are way better than me and more experienced.I'm pretty confident in my other professional work, but in comics sometimes I just want to delete everything because I feel dumb for drawing stuff from the time I was a teenager. But I can't hide them I have to do this. I love them so much XD Thanks for sharing your post!!!! I will go to your page to give you tons of love and encouragement <3

So glad you got back to drawing/comic. I know how it feels to set aside something and then find that you still love it after awhile. I started my comic in 2011 actually (a year after I decided to create it). And I got really overwhelmed and frustrated so I stopped. You can even see the same 4 pages that I retained in the current version.

I just focused on studying drawing. I painted mainly portraits (of the same characters in my comic instead of fanart, go figure..) and doing commissions for other people. 6 years later, I still love the story so here I am.

I, too, saw a lot of artists who can draw and write comics better than I am. I did not let that deter me. I have heard of people who have changed careers at 50 so 30 is definitely not too late. What matters is that we enjoy what we draw and it will resonate with other people. The latter is just icing on the cake really

I checked out your comic and subscribed. Very intriguing story so far and I find it interesting that your narrate it in a non-linear way. If that makes sense.

@amortelito Thank you! Very flattered that you think so. The story has been my sole motivation to draw all these years though sometimes I do think I spend waay too much time on my pages.

@mgart1937 Thanks! No worries, there's not a lot of pages yet to catch up on. And I haven't read Eon: The Last Dragoneye . lol, the only comics I read prior to discovering tapas are X-Men comics (which I used to collect because I was obssessed with Rogue since the 90s Animated Series) XD

I think I went through a similar past as you have: Been really into drawing since I was a baby, yet never took it seriously until way later in life. (Granted, I've started taking it seriously much earlier.) This is a great post of encouragement, since I have some regrets with that; I appreciate it!

This is really inspiring for me as I also left behind my art for work, kids, life, etc. In fact I think I stopped drawing for about 15 years. I picked it back up a few years ago when I turned 40 and I'm currently working on a new comic that I will start posting when it's ready. I did however start to post some of my old comic books that I made when I was a kid. The first one is up now and the rest will follow. I look forward to reading your comic! It's always nice to look back on where we came from. I still keep my old crap drawings in my DA account though it doesn't go as far back as for when I was a kid. I moved to the US so all my super old doodles are probably gone.
