Little background info, just felt like sharing bc I thought it was funny
So like, me and my little sister were kinda excited since we can appreciate a good disaster flick and just happened to be looking for more anime so like, it shoulda been a perfect match. We were gonna try binging it the day it came on Netflix until we saw the rating pop-up included sexual scenes which raised red flags for us personally bc we're bound to feel uncomfortable, duh. The director's also worked on Devilman Crybaby, which absolutely went all in on scenes like that. So I went ahead and saw the whole thing, found the one scene what I could skip over, and saw it again with her later lol
I'm gonna keep my thoughts on it as spoiler-free as I can.
Overall feelings? It's not the worst, and it has a few great moments. Starts off strong and then loses steam and kinda chills out for a bit before remembering that Japan would sink. Based on the trailer, I thought the main family was gonna look for each other for a huge chunk of the show as everything's going down, but nah, that gets resolved real quick. There's a sub-plot about a third of the way through and it almost feels unnecessary, but for what the show needs from the main cast, you kinda need to watch it so yea (character development, you know how it is sometimes). The ending's a little dragged out, but it really tries to celebrate Japan as a whole as it was meant to come out before the 2020 Olympics.
The first episode is good enough as a stand-alone experience minus the little tease of the next episode at the end. If you're that curious to know what happens after, then go watch the show and judge that for yourself. It's only 10 episodes, shorter than most anime coming out nowadays.
