Since our Kickstarter ended I figured I'd come back and let people know how we did. The campaign was a great success - we made over $9000 for the printing of two books, 177% of our goal! It was a lot of work with a lot still left to go, so here's some info that might be useful to anyone looking toward their own campaigns:
We had a big surge our first day (we made over 30% of our money within the first 24 hours) from our subs. Our current sub count is just over 2500 across both books, and we hoped to get at least 100 of them to back. We came pretty close to that, as near as I can tell from the stats. That's about half of how many likes we get in a given episode of the comic.
The rest of our backers (almost half) came to us from using the Kickstarter searching functions/browsing. We wouldn't have made our goal without that! So be aware that a lot of people coming to your kickstarter will be people who aren't yet familiar with your product.
We posted links to our kickstarter on Topwebcomics, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Tapas, and Instagram. Bit.ly couldn't track insta but we got better traffic from Tumblr than Twitter, which makes sense given our relative follower counts on those platforms. I don't think TBC helped us at all tbh, but we got good comments and at least a few backers from everywhere else.
In that vein, we didn't get as much interest in our swag incentives as expected. It could be those tiers were just too expensive, or our non-sub backers were more interested in getting the books before giving a crap about charms or buttons and such. Next time we plan to do a smaller number of incentives, since our most popular tiers were far and away print and digital copies of the books only.
A LOT of our backers are not from our country. Make sure you have a very healthy shipping estimate with a buffer built into your goal.
If you plan to do stretch goals make sure you plan them better than I did, lol. We weren't expecting to go so beyond our goal and weren't sure what to offer at first.
And that's all I can think of atm but if anyone has questions about starting their own Kickstarter I'll try to help!
