Kindle Vella art - artists watch them

Hey all...

I write on the new(ish) Kindle Vella platform and I still have a few things here. But this is about the art being used by the other authors. Everyone has to have art for book covers, right?

Seems some of the writers aren't too picky about where they get their art and if the artists are paid. I get mine from rajillustration here on tapas and yes, she gets paid because I'm REALLY picky about artists getting paid.

I'm seeing some Deviantart artists stuff show up (at least some of the people I'm aware of) on vella and I don't know if the artist has been paid for it or not. My guess is 50/50 not because this is a constant struggle. We've even seen art with freaking watermarks on it.

Y'all might want to check out vella once in awhile if you've got art on Deviant or if it shows up in pinterest. There are a bunch of us trying to keep people on the line about permissions etc. but... y'all know what it's like.

Just keep a look out now and then, keep them on your "watch" list.

It always blows my mind how many online authors don't realize you can't just pull stuff of google image search, or art that you like. I assume that a bunch of them are either very young, or others just expect they won't ever get caught. I imagine if you steal another's art and get reported for it, it can take down your novel right? Like that's a pretty big risk.

I know of one person in the FB promo groups who was told change it or you won't be able to promo your work here. Another writer actually reports people to amazon.

It is, it's risking a lot.
