Know any cool heist stories?

Hey yo! So I'm working on a heist project at the moment. So I'm looking for exciting and cool heist stories for research and inspiration. What are some of your favorite heist movies, shows, comics, books, and real-life stories?

On top of that, what are some of your favorite and least favorite parts of the heist stories?

My writer thought of writing heist a year ago, so we watched a few movies... Out of all I will always recommend Ocean's 11. It's a perfect heist. Also always a pleasure to watch since 2001.

I most definitely don't recommend The Italian Job (1969), despite having young Michael Caine, absolutely not worth your time (at least as a heist material...wasn't really a good movie too, to be honest).

There is this bank heist on ocean's eleven. It was and still is my favorite movie and then there is this new animated movie I haven't watched yet but it looks interesting, It's called The Bad Guys.

I like Gone in Sixty Seconds (car heist). People say it's bad but the heist process is actually fun to watch: they make the cars so personal, so tantalizing. I can feel the passion from the actors & screenwriters.

Least favorite part? Hard to think about it... If the storytelling don't keep us hyped about the heist I guess. It has to be engaging/exciting to the audience.

For more advanced choice, you can study Michael Mann's movie Heat, it's less about the heist and more about character study. Best stories always tell about human nature not their objectives.

The Shadow&Bone series has a great heist story in the Six of Crows volume (two books - Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom). Really loved it and wrote my own heist story inspired by the skills of those characters.

My favorite parts of the heists are the planning, execution, and seeing how they react when things go incredibly wrong. Least favorite parts are only if the author had a gaping hole in logic or required a huge leap of faith - a great example of this is in Now You Can See Me 2 where they carried out a heist in a data center. There's no reason why they had to toss the card (with the chip stuck to it) to every single member of their team when being searched! (There were many other flaws but that one was by far the worst).

Alright sounds cool. I'll give it a read. Thanks for the thoughts and example. I love that scene, but it makes like no sense. Awesome spectacle, but no logical sense... like most of the movie haha.

Oh, he finished reading Six of Crows because heist too haha, and then Mistborn which is not really a heist.. and then NaNoWriMo ended he basically tried to jump into writing a novel without a good preparation (he only wrote scripts before, and for this one he also had no time to think the story through), so it ended in nothing except us finding out about Brandon Sanderson's books
