Yahoo! I was able to open my page correctly (Zanreo is my savior)! Check out the OP, I updated it with the relevant info on how to open your own page!

Now, next step seems to be indexing it. Once I figure that one out, I'll get back here smile

As a former troper..... I don't think it's a good idea to add new tropes if you're not already a troper, or haven't lurked there for a little while. There are a LOT of tropes already, and there's a good chance that whatever trope you recognise in your own series is already on there somewhere. Explore the site! (Or if you're having trouble with something very specific, try the Trope Finder?)

Like, on your page, I see you've listed "sentient robots" as a trope your work has, but Sentient Robots isn't a trope that exists on the site under that name. The tropes on TVTropes are like a language that the community knows well, and not bothering to learn that language and just making up your own words instead is sorta tacky and makes your page look tone-deaf.
Just search the site for "sentient robots" and the Sliding Scale of Robot Intelligence1 is one of the first tropes that comes up. If you read that page, you can find a link in that trope to the Robot page, and the Robot trope page mentions that the Robot Roll Call page has a very comprehensive list of robot-related tropes. So you'd explore, like this, looking through the different tropes, reading up on the differences, and finding tropes that best fit your characters and story before adding them to your comic's page.

You also have a trope about "gold star lesbians" listed on your page that doesn't seem to be a real trope. I did a search for "lesbians," though, and clicked on the first trope that came up (Hide Your Lesbians) just to see what related tropes it listed, and lo and behold, Cast Full Of Gay was listed there -- a series where most if not all characters are gay -- which seems to be the trope that fits the description you have there!

And then, once you find tropes that fit your comic very closely, you can list them on your comic's page, and you can also go to those trope pages and edit them to add your comic to the listed examples! You'd want to make sure it really fits, and you'd want to make sure it's a trope that it's okay to add examples to (some tropes say that they shouldn't have listed examples, or specific notes like "don't add aversions or subversions to the examples"), and click to edit and scroll down to the examples and add your comic! Make sure to take note of how formatting works, too, since TV tropes has some of its own specific formatting styles.

Look, the thing is, TV Tropes isn't designed as a place to advertise your work -- it's made and upkept and populated by people who are passionate about dissecting and analysing the tropes in media. While there's no rule keeping anyone out -- and when I asked about it years ago, the community assured me that they have no problems with webcomic artists adding and populating their own pages -- still, don't be the guy barging into a community just to advertise your work without caring about the community. Lurk for a while and see how everyone else is doing things; watch some of the suggested tropes in the trope launcher/YKTTW and see which ones are successful and which don't fly and you'll probably have a better idea of how to propose tropes. Learn at least enough tropes to talk about your comic before you start trying to describe your comic with tropes.

A former troper?

I used edit there and was a heck of time waster. However, I'm not sure it's great idea to promote your work there, there's a lot of a bad rep for with people promoting their fanfics. There's even pages promoting works that are not finished or even started on yet.

Thanks much for your advice! I'm currently beyond busy (just applied for a new job), but I haven't forgotten this thread. I will update my OP with your suggestions, work more on my page and get back to everybody as soon as I can!

I am going to bump this up, because I finally had a bit of time to focus on it and got my page up and running with some good links to tropes for my comic!

So, here's3 my page. At the bottom of it, you can find the tropes I linked to:

This show provides examples of:
Badass Lesbian: Shanti and Sekhmet are lesbian powerful combatants.
Action Girl: Both Shanti and Sekhmet are powerful combatants. Shanti is a very good martial artist, although she excels as a sniper. Sekhmet is nearly unstoppable in melee and regular hand-to-hand combat.
World of Action Girls: Because Shanti and Sekhmet constitute a world of action girls!
Sentient Robots: Assistant, Sekhmet's robotic body guard, is a sentient robot who apparently has feelings.
Ancient Egypt: The most influential culture on this parallel Earth. Famous Last Words: On ("Part 3, page 26"), Sekhmet's famous last words are spoken!

Here's the original code:

    ----
!! This show provides examples of:
* BadassLesbian: Shanti and Sekhmet are lesbian powerful combatants.
* ActionGirl: Both Shanti and Sekhmet are powerful combatants. Shanti is a very good martial artist, although she excels as a sniper. Sekhmet is nearly unstoppable in melee and regular hand-to-hand combat.
* WorldOfActionGirls: Because Shanti and Sekhmet constitute a world of action girls!
* SentientRobots: Assistant, Sekhmet's robotic body guard, is a sentient robot who apparently has feelings.
* AncientEgypt: Ancient Egypt The most influential culture on this parallel Earth.
* FamousLastWords: On ([[https://infectedbloodcomics.com/2016/03/14/part-3-page-26/ "Part 3, page 26"]]), Sekhmet's famous last words are spoken!

The asterisks link directly to a trope, a list of which you can find here.

Once you've created your page, I would suggest you'd link it to an index (or index it). Check this out. For example, I indexed my page under Gay and Lesbian Fiction. Once you index it, your page is automatically linked to such index - that means, there is no need to link back to the index from your page.

I'll see what else I can do, but hopefully this helps! smile

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the original description, but I'm almost positive the term 'gold star' means someone that has never had sexual contact with the 'opposite' sex. So I wouldn't really consider it a trope because it's more frequent irl than in fiction (then again, I'm not a huge TVtropes person!)

((I also just noticed this was from may 30 woops))

Oh awesome, yeah! This is looking a lot better! : D If it were me, I would probably shorten the series description a bit to something that reads more like a back-of-the-book summary, but that's up to you!

I'm still gonna advise removing "Sentient Robots," as that isn't an existing trope and makes the page look a lil messy -- if you check the Robot Roll Call list you can probably find something that fits your character! (Androids Are People Too might be close?)

ALSO, make sure to read through the entries of the tropes you link -- they're not always what they sound like! For example, the page you've linked to as an example of Famous Last Words is actually a lot closer to the Gilligan Cut trope (or maybe one of the other variants listed in the Gilligan Cut description) -- the "famous last words" trope refers to actual dying words, which doesn't seem to be what you meant! That should be simple enough to swap out, though. : )

While you're indexing, go ahead and stick yourself in the webcomics index! There's no problem with being in multiple indexes, as long as your work fits there!

YEAH I got confused because I didn't notice the trope suggestion until well after I'd typed up my wall of text. xD But I'd agree -- tropes aren't just terminology for things that exist, they're a way to talk about specific tendencies that crop up again and again in media. So while Gold Star Lesbian can be a real term, it's probably not a trope. (at best, it might be an aversion of Everyone is Bi or If Its You Its Okay, but aversions usually aren't supposed to be listed on a work's page)

Thanks a lot! I'll get to editing as soon as I can smile Too bad about the Famous Last Words... I really need to spend at least 10 minutes reading through the descriptions, rather than checking out the examples (I was misled :/ ).

So, I did a bunch of editing and now it looks much better - and I'm getting views from that page! Here's what I have indexed, so far:

Gay and Lesbian Fiction
Military and Warfare Comics
Sci-Fi Webcomics

As for my tropes:

This show provides examples of:
Action Girl:Both Shanti and Sekhmet are powerful combatants. Shanti is a very good
martial artist, although she excels as a sniper. Sekhmet isnearly unstoppable in melee and regular hand-to-hand combat.
Ancient Egypt: Ancient Egypt The most influential culture on this parallel Earth.
Androids Are People, Too: Assistant, Sekhmet's robotic body guard, is a sentient robot who apparently has feelings, which Sekhmet constantly abuses.
Badass Lesbian: Shanti and Sekhmet are lesbian powerful combatants.
Cast Full of Gay: Main cast is all lesbian.
Friendly Sniper: Shanti is a kind, positive and likes to smile.
Girls Need Role Models: Shanti is a great role model for girls, as she's strong, independent and idealistic.
Hitman with a Heart: Shanti only targets bad guys and would never hurt an innocent.
Military and Warfare Comics: Sekhmet is a wanted war criminal who goes AWOL and hides in enemy territory.
Professional Killer: Shanti is an assassin, although she is not in it for the money. All profits go to her hospital.
World of Action Girls: Because Shanti and Sekhmet constitute a world of action girls!

As I find more places to index and more tropes to link to, I'm noticing more views referred from my TV Tropes page, so I would highly recommend everyone to go through this exercise smile

I'm still not sure about my description... Should I shorten it? I think I'll get to it once I've perused more tropes and indexes.

Meanwhile, I'd love to see other people showing off their TV Tropes pages!

omg!! Infected, this is a really good trope list!! : D

Re: the description -- here's a few examples of trope pages for webcomics that definitely have a lot going on in their stories: The Meek, Paranatural1, Cucumber Quest
Unless a particular work has a long history behind it, they're usually around 2 paragraphs with a couple of extra sentences for meta info! Since works on TV Tropes aren't written up by the author most of the time, it's often less of a full summary of the series and more like a fan trying to sum up the basics to someone that they're trying to convince to read it.

My readers made mine!5 : D I have a policy of not touching my own comics' TV Tropes page (which is why no one has fixed "Shapeshifter Mashup" being misspelled yet), because I like the idea that everything that's there is something a reader found significant enough to include -- like, the whole thing is other people's impression of my work, and that's really cool to me! and I think they did a pretty good job. : )

Thanks a lot! I'll try to shorten that description, then.: And I am really having fun finding more tropes and indexes! It's even helping me understanding my characters a bit better smile

I don't have readers so dedicated as to open a page for my comics, but if in the future I will, it'll be fun to see what they come up with. I also wouldn't touch their input, as a general rule smile

Come on, people, show your pages!

So, I did shorten my description and even started working on a page for my character (that's easy: just click on Create New from your comic's page and then pick Characters), but if I link to an image from anywhere on the web, apparently, I get the following error: No hotlink, please.

Does anybody know hot to upload and link to an image correctly? smile

I have a couple for my webcomics actually, and I've been picking away at the both of them, mostly to add new tropes cause I am really obsessive about that for some reason. Haven't tried images in mine yet!

And while I'm doing the whole "author does the tropes" thing I'm trying to keep tabs on it and make sure I'm not spoiling things for future plots. Some of my wording might be a bit weird though.

Here's the one for Guardian Ghost1

And for Fighting Dreamers

Click the Upload Image icon there on the Edit Page tab.

An image uploader will pop up. Drag and drop your images. After processing, a markup string will be given to you under the submitted image, like so:

Copy said string to your clipboard and paste on your page script.

Thank you so much! I figured it out a couple of days ago and was going to update, but you saved me some time smile

BTW, investing some time into finding and linking to more indexes and tropes is earning me even more traffic. This is highly recommended!

My tropes so far:
Action Girl: Both Shanti and Sekhmet are powerful combatants. Shanti is a very good martial artist, although she excels as a sniper. Sekhmet is nearly unstoppable in melee and regular hand-to-hand combat.
Ancient Egypt: Ancient Egypt The most influential culture on this parallel Earth.
Androids Are People, Too: Assistant, Sekhmet's body guard, is a sentient robot who apparently has feelings, which Sekhmet constantly abuses.
Statuesque Stunner: Sekhmet, Shanti and Blitz are tall and muscular women belonging to an engineered species called A.I.M.S. Sekhmet is 6′ 6″ (1.98 m) and is among the strongest representatives of her species. Shanti is 6′ 1″ (1.86 m). Although less strong than Sekhmet, she could easily crush a human head with her bare hands. Blitz is shorter, at 5′ 9″ (1.80 m). Even if she is a less powerful A.I.M.S., she is still far stronger than the strongest human.
World of Action Girls: Because Shanti and Sekhmet constitute a world of action girls!

Now, if you have a TV Tropes page, why don't you post your tropes and/or indexes? It would give everyone a really good idea of how to analyze their own comics and find more links for those who already have a page smile

Oh sweet! Tvtropes is dope, I spend...a little too much time there. haha
My comic Temple Va'Ti has a page.

I'd really appreciate it if anybody could help build the page up; there are only six episodes so far, but I'm sure there are plenty of tropes within the comic that haven't been noticed or documented yet.

3 years later

I have a page on TVtropes as well:

As to finding new tropes, you can do what I do: check the pages of comics in the same genre and add whatever tropes suit yours.
