I have no opinion on this matter, but the first Despicable Me film was actually really good.

(I watched the third one last month, and except for the goat it was trash)

i like that they have a lore movie. about where they came from, to make sense of their existence.
was anyone sitting watching despicable me like: this doesnt add up. did he make the minions? are they REALLY his cousins.

The fact that they are ancient inmortal beings who have the mission to serve an evil overlord (or at least someone who calls himself/herself evil) was a curious twist....

While I kinda liked the Minions in the first movie it was once again the fact, that they were EVERYWHERE, that got me to hate those things. I mean they are pretty much a rip off of the Toy Story Aliens and those never got as annoying (or their own movie for that matter). Remember them?

I mean they are able to talk more, I guess, but just the designs and voices seem at least similar to me.

I hated minions in the second film and their own film and basically anything after the first film, but I disagree with you. Design wise they look nothing alike, and their characteristics are nothing alike either? The thing that ties them together imho is just that they're annoying sidekicks, but by that definition you could say the toy story aliens and the talking cats in sailor moon are the same...

I actually was confused watching the Minions movie, cause didn't Gru say in one of the first two movies that he grew all of them from the same set of stem cells? Cause I vividly remember that line, but the Minions movie rewrites that

I see similarities there. A huge amount of small one colored figurines with similar body proportions, very similar voices, dedication to one person/cause, the aliens later on talk very little and in repeating sentences (though they talk more on this clip) and yes, being annoying sidekicks. The characters fill different roles and the Minions in the first movie are a lot more involved in the plot (though the aliens are as well in Toy Story 3), but they still seem closer to each other than many other movie sidekicks. At least that is my impression.

With the 1st Despicable Me movie I remember finding the minions funny and thought they were a nice addition to the film, but now it seems like they're turning into a cash grab.

I don't have strong feelings about Porgs, but I think the reason (assuming its true) is pretty cute!

Skellig Michael, the Irish Island on which the Luke Skywalker scenes were shot, is a wildlife preserve that pays home to "hundreds" of puffins—squat little birds that bear a not-inconsiderable resemblance to Porgs. And by law, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was not permitted to mess with the puffins.

I do think the minions in the first movie are fine/relevant.

My favorite minions have to be the Higehige robots from Bomberman jetterz tbh. They're cute and thoughtful ;;

At first, I thought I was watching an unintentionally hilarious video -- but it is a brilliant parody, isn't it?

They existed at least from caveman's age, and the 3 minions that the movie focuses, were alive back then. And they were interested in serving evil leaders.

The movie doesn't explain why, so is safe to asume it was in their nature. Maybe they are the embodiment of chaos in the terrenal world. That would explain their erratic behavior, mixed language, lack of impulse control, etc....

This is the weirdest "theory" i have ever made.

especially the part where she brings up how she tackled the shiz out of a kid in a minion costume.
