Ooooh coming up with story premises are fun exercises. Too bad I've never actually been able to convert these to real stories. I've got a lot of them but here are some of the shorter ones, feel free to take and mold any of them!
1) The father/grandfather is a part of an organization that is quietly keeping full the resevoir of water that the world we know uses. They do this by filling out gruesome sacrifices to a powerful water deity. He absolutely hates his work, but if he didn't do it, the world would be without water. The deity marks sacrifices he wants with a brand and the organization is responsible for hunting down marked people. His granddaughters, along with everyone else, lived blissfully unaware of the machine that works to sustain their lives. When the grandfather finds out that his older granddaughter was marked, he takes a stand, whisking her away and tricking the spirit into consuming another sacrifice. The spirit, enraged, doubles the amount of sacrifices and cuts the amount of water he gave. Years later, the heroine uncovers her grandfather's journal, beginning her search, and a strange encryption appears on the back of her hand...
2) A mother/daughter duo of treasure hunters have been recruited to find a mysterious artifact but only when they find it do they realize its true power. The mother and daughter differ on what to do with it. The mom wants to get the job done with but the daughter thinks they should use it for their own purposes. They end up fighting each other to wrest control of the rock but together they accidentally realize that the organization intended to use the artifact in nefarious ways and that even the daughter underestimated how defiling the power was. Now they team up again to destroy the artifact while running from their powerful recruiters. Will they make it in time to destroy the object before the evil organization can steal it? Or before it completely engulfs the girl in the madness of power?
3) A middle-aged woman cop on the beat is an expert sleuth using her powers to speak to computers and devices. Her phone in particular is quite a chatty friend and sidekick. However, a new string of murders has begun to test her skills as all of them have been killed in a highly unusual way: they all died with a phone in their hand and a heart attack. None of the phones are responsive to the cop’s questioning and she begins to suspect someone else has a similar power, someone who is using it to settle scores and gain influence…
