Let's Vent about the problem you are facing with your novel

In your opinion, should a web novel be finished at a faster pace? I'm writing my novel in detail for readers so that they can understand how and why everything is happening. However, someone told me to make major changes and that I need to speed up. It's my first time writing, so if I do that, I feel like I'm the one who will become confuse. Or am I writing it wrong way all along?

sometimes you want it to run slowly to introduce readers to new details, but eventually it needs to amp up the pace or it can feel like it isn't really going anywhere. my editor has to keep reminding me of that, so trust me, you're not the only one who has that problem

1) Too many ideas flood my head. I literally have to control myself.
2) dialog
3) portraying characters far above my intelligence level and scope of knowledge. A future villain in ADB is supposed to be a master tactician with Einstein level iq. My iq not that high and I've never been to military academy. My only military experience is a reservist basic infantry lol

Then it could be a problem for me. I've already uploaded 35 chapters, and in chapter 10, they told me to speed up. ‍

Hmmmm I think it totally depends on the platform.

For Tapas, long serialization is king for profit and long-term engagement. It makes the most money, more views overtime because of consistent fresh chapters, and a better exposure for readers.

I've made the mistake of giving in to peer pressure from readers and it changed a character's fate, to the point where it impacts the ending. I do not recommend adhering to another's opinion. I made it work, but I literally altered my entire outline for this reason.

YOU are the writer and we need to take care of our characters. If their story needs more detail, don't hesitate to do so. If you are becoming confused, then time to step back, analyze the outline and story, and figure out how to get to the climax in a satisfactory manner.

hmm, maybe you'd want to work with an editor to see how you can condense your story more then, that is, if you haven't been able to figure it out by yourself

The novel I'm currently writing Sugar and Smoke wasn't meant to be released first in terms of release order. Because it stemmed from another story that takes place a few years after the events of Sugar and Smoke, which was meant to be a prequel story. (But I decided to go for a normal chronological release order instead.)

I have to make sure all events and details that happened in the current novel I'm writing has to align well with that another story that takes place a few years later, which I already had made a decent chunk of information for (worldbuilding, character developments, etc) prior to actually planning and writing Sugar and Smoke.

I have little hick-ups on grammar. Other then that my big problem currently is I am so close to 250 subs and I want to get there before my 1 year!

I'm gonna be honest, I started writing back in 2019 and wrote daily till around late 2023 before going back to the start of the series to edit. Editing was a pain and expensive to hire an editor, pay for the illustrations, etc. That was fine but now that I've had volume 1 done and out for over a year, I have no motivation to sit down and edit volume 2 anymore. Not because I don't like writing or my story but because editing through book 1 gave me the worst depression I've had yet. It also didn't help that my editor took 6 months after the required time to give the report, and even when they did, none of it was written so I am never working with them again(i liked them too because the did a decent job in fairly good time with volume 1). I want to push forward but can't find the time, ability, nor motivation to edit further despite needing to as I have, at minimum, 7 more volumes to edit. I'm also in the middle of recording and editing volume 1s audiobook, which is being hindered by my job going into its busy season. That felt good to write out.

Hmm, the current problem I'm facing with writing is not having enough time to write, and thinking up my best ideas when I can't write them down. Like when I'm at work, and my boss is right there, looking right at me. My work has a no phones during work time policy. Uhg! Why does my brain think of the best ideas at the worst times!
